History of Batteries:
The battery was first invented by an Italian scientist named Alessandro Volta in 1800. Voltage is the electrical potential which is measured in volts, so we see if you really wanted be remembered in history, invent something and have a part of it named after you! Volta continued working and began stacking or piling the cells together to get more power, he thought that he had discovered an unlimited power source for mankind. Because of this piling of cells, batteries were called piles, it was Benjamin Franklin who called them batteries after a battery of cannons. The major drawback for these early wet batteries is they were held in large glass containers which could spill or even break, making them only useful for items that were stationary. This meant that they didn’t even have Battery Operated Candles With Batteries like we do today. Something was needed to replace the liquid so that batteries could be moved and not stuck in one place. The answer came in a paste, the paste could be used in place of a liquid which became the electrolyte, this didn’t happen until late in the nineteenth century. Workings of the Battery:
Batteries generate electrical energy from a chemical reaction. These batteries can be large like the ones for your car or small like 3Volt Lithium LED Votive Candle Battery CR2032. Cells in a battery are composed of two half cells, one is the anode or negative end and the other is the cathode or positive end. Batteries of course can have more than 1 cell in them, such as the average car battery has four to eight cells in it. While car batteries are considered a wet battery as they still use a liquid, the typical flashlight batteries used in Battery Candles and Battery Operated Lights are considered a solid battery as they mostly use a porous type paste in them. Of course the chemical reaction begins to run its course and gets to a point where it is no longer producing electricity. Since they do run out and need to be replaced this along with ever increasing worldwide demand has turned the battery industry into a 50 billion US plus, a year market. Some Battery Uses Today:
Each year it seems that more and more carry around products come out that can use batteries, ranging from tiny pen light batteries to heavy duty flashlights. They can be used to power a string of lights like the Multi Colored LED Battery Lights which use a simple 9V-Size Pile Alkaline Battery. Batteries are also used in many Battery Candles, which comes in very handy during storms when the power goes out and you still would like some light. Some of the candles can be ones like the Set Of Two Battery Candles or even for a Battery Operated 24 inch Artificial Lighted Christmas Wreaths.
