The debate continues between the choices of artificial Christmas trees versus real Christmas trees, but there are some obvious facts that support either choice. I am going to run down a few facts for you to look at so that when the time comes for you to choose on which option would best suit your needs, you will have some ideas to consider.
There are several pros and cons for using a real Christmas tree. The first and foremost item on the list is obviously the real smell of a Christmas tree. Every time you come into an area that has a real Christmas tree you are greeted with the beautiful aroma of a pine tree, which helps personify Christmas. You know that a real Christmas tree can be thrown out every year so you don’t need to store it, and it will decompose since it is a product of its own environment. Since it is a real tree you also need to water it daily, and it will dry out faster with the heater on and when it is in the same room as a fireplace. You will also have the inconvenience of cleaning up all the needles that may fall on the ground. There is also the risk of a fire involved if for some reason your tree dries out too much and you have a spark that could unintentionally ignite your tree.
Artificial Christmas trees also have pros and cons. The first one being that once you purchase an artificial tree you are set for many years to come. There is no need to spend time shopping for the perfect tree every year. Depending on the quality you may not need to purchase another tree for about 5-10 years if you take good care of it. These days they come in a variety of different colors so you can make a statement with red, blue, white, silver or even black. Manufacturers have really come a long way in their re-creation of artificial Christmas trees, they no longer look fake; you have to get really close to some to tell the difference and that was not always the case. You do have to store your artificial tree between the holidays but now they make some handy Christmas tree storage bags to put away until next season. Some designers are now making pre-lit artificial Christmas trees so it will take quite a bit of the work out of stringing up your own Christmas tree lights. Using an artificial tree allows you to put up your decorations much earlier in the season. Many tree manufacturers are making them fire retardant to a certain extent, so you run less risk of a fire starting or you can get a head start on putting it out in enough time not to cause severe damage. Remember that the best way to prevent a fire is to make sure you unplug the lights on the tree if you will not be near it.
Either decision you make, whether it is an artificial Christmas tree or a real tree for your families needs, know that you can always change your mind and go with the alternate option because they both make a beautiful decorative piece.
