The best artificial Christmas trees ever made are now available in today’s market. There is very little left to improve on with the designs of modern times. Everything anyone can want from an artificial tree has been though of, and implemented into the state of the art faux tree. A synopsis of the evolution of artificial trees will show exactly how far technology has come in order to now have the best artificial Christmas trees in history.
In 1747, long before Christmas trees were used in the United States of America, German settlers in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania decorated a wooden tree-shaped pyramid with candles and evergreen boughs. Thus began the attraction to something other than a pine tree for holiday decorations. Then in the 1880s, in Germany, the very first artificial tree was constructed using large dyed green feathers attached to wire branches. The great attraction was that there is now a tree that does not shed pine needles. The future possibilities seemed numerous at this point.
In 1930 a U.S. brush manufacturing company known as Addis Brush started creating artificial trees using the same machinery and animal hair as it did to make its bristled toilet brushes. These trees were sturdier then, and not as flammable as the feather trees were. This became the newest and highest standard in tree manufacturing.
In 1958 a Chicago based company, Modern Coatings, Inc., developed and manufactured fireproof aluminum trees. The trees featured a color-wheel at the base, which projected light upward into the branches. The reflection of light off the shiny needles was alluring and attractive to Americans and quickly grew in popularity.
However, in 1965, the negative portrayal in “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, consequently lead to a decline in sales of the once highly popular aluminum Christmas trees. In today’s manufacturing plants, most artificial trees are mass-produced from one hundred percent recycled plastics. A growing trend now are artificial trees that come with built in lights, or pre-lit Christmas trees as they are called, are even more convenient. The convenience of pre-lighted trees is not only thought of as a luxury, but also a necessity during the holiday season by many consumers, due to the cost effectiveness of quicker assembly in commercial applications. Add to this concept the need for elderly and physically challenged people to have a tree that requires no light strings, and they conclude that the safety and pain-free setup is indispensable to them. So by today’s standards, what exactly constitutes the “best artificial Christmas trees”?
The criterion for the perfect size of tree will vary, and so will preference for color and partiality between realistic and contemporary. When all is said and done, no doubt the best artificial Christmas trees will leave nothing to be desired by the buyer when it comes to quality. One should not say, “Oh I wish my tree looked fuller”, or “This tree will never be mistaken for a real pine tree”. Regardless of the style chosen, the buyer will say instead, “This is one of the best artificial Christmas trees I’ve ever bought because it looks so full, symmetrical, lifelike, and is the focal point of my home”.
