Types of Ribbon.
Ribbon is woven in various ways and with similar fabrics for different effects. Iridescent ribbon gives a rainbow effect when the ribbon moves.
Jacquards have an intricate, variegated pattern while the ombre ribbon is a woven technique that gives the effect of the colors actually changing hues.
Cotton ribbon is casual and comfortable and cut from bolt fabric sized to maintain its shape and very popula
r because of the many patterns and colors.
Craft ribbons are cut edge cotton and can be cut lengthwise for narrower widths. Pleated cotton ribbon makes very nice bows.
Velvet ribbon is rich and elegant and made of either flock material or silk that is woven on cotton backing. Satin ribbon is the most fluid and soft satins come in both cut edge and woven edge. The cut edge satin is less expensive but the edges have a tendency to ravel while the woven edge satin tends to ravel on the ends.
Taffeta ribbon is crisp with a distinct watermark design. They are finely woven from silk or rayon with a cut edge. They make beautifully shaped bows that hold their shape.

Grosgrain ribbon is made of woven blends and polyester and is heavier than taffeta with a delicate crosswise ribbing.
Organza or Organdy ribbon is soft and sheer and made of silk, cotton or rayon. Organza can be either floppy or crisp with beautiful patterns.
