How Batteries Work
The battery was first invented by an Italian scientist named Alessandro Volta in 1800.
Voltage is the electrical potential which is measured in volts, so we see if you really want to be remembered in history, invent something and have it named after you! Volta continued working and began stacking or piling the cells together to get more power, he thought that he had discovered an unlimited power source for mankind. The major drawback for these early wet batteries is they were held in large glass containers which could spill or even break, making them only useful for items that were stationary. This meant that they did not even have Battery Operated Candles With Batteries or even Battery Operated Lights like we do today. Something was needed to replace the liquid so that batteries could be moved and not stuck in one place. The answer came in a paste, the paste could be used in place of a liquid which became the electrolyte, this did not happen until late in the nineteenth century.
