History of Glass Ornaments.

Glass Christmas Ornaments.
Ornaments as we know it have come a long way throughout time. Long before the glass ornament, trees were decorated with fruit, nuts, candles, paper ornaments and other candies. In Germany in the 1500s though, the trade of glass blowing soon became popular. An unknown artisan developed a new blowpipe that helped bring glass blowing into the mainstream. Later in the 19th century, a man by the name of Hans Gruiner, started to make ornaments of fruit and nuts. He would put lead or mercury inside the ornament to give it a silver appearance.

America and German Glass Ornaments.
By the end of the 19th century, German ornaments were widely exported. Britain was a major importer after a newspaper printed a photo of Queen Victorias tree. In America, F. W. Woolworth began importing German glass to sell in his Five and Dime stores. Woolworth sold about 25 million dollars worth of ornaments that were priced at 10 cents or below. With the onset of World War I, imports from Germany slowed. At this time other countries got in on the glass ornament trade. Japan began exporting ornaments in 1925. Czechoslovakia began exporting beautifully ornate ornaments. In 1935, nearly 250 million ornaments had been imported to the United States.

Other Glass Blown Ornaments.
Because of the war, in 1939, the Corning Glass Company teamed with Eckardt to start producing ornaments commercially. Until this time, Corning only produced glass light bulbs. They discovered they could produce ornaments fairly cheaply on their machines. The silver lining and even the metal hangers were soon left off because of the lack of material from the war.

Today the United States makes up about 80 percent of the German glass reproduction business. The glass Christmas ornaments we know today have come a long way. Select this page to view our Christmas Decorations Ideas . For more information please go to History of Glass Ornaments.

Garland and Wedding Uses

Artifical Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland:
A garland is usually a decorative type of wreath or a braided cord, which can be used at festive occasions. The word garland actually comes from the Italian word ghirlanda which means a braid. These braided cords can be small and hung around a persons neck, or larger and hung on inanimate objects. Originally garlands were made of flowers and or leaves. Today they can be artificial or real they could be made of flowers, leaves, tinsel, pine or a combination of any of these. Go to the Christmas Decorations Ideas to see more.

Uses for Garland:
Garland can be used anytime of the year to add an extra touch to make the home look nice or it can be used just for special occasions to really help make things stand out, such as at:
  • Weddings
  • Birthdays
  • Receptions
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
  • Parties

At these occasions it can be hung around the party room, or for outdoor venues it can be placed on or around the tables, gazebo or the building itself.

Garland at Weddings:
This is where the type of decoration is determined by the type of party or event. Ribbons or bows are a common way of decorating the garland. For weddings, people often use white, ivory or the color of the brides maids dresses. For a birthday a more colorful ribbon would be used and of course for Christmas most use a Unique Christmas Ribbon or giant red bows. A colored ribbon could be wrapped around the garland before it is hung or bows could be hung on the garland at certain locations. For additional information read our page on Garland and Wedding Uses. Decorative Country Holiday Garland and Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland.

Outdoor Christmas Decorations

Early Celebrations:
Some of the earliest celebrations in the northern hemisphere were the winter solstice, as this marked the time of the days getting longer and the nights getting shorter. These festivals were decorated with items such as, garland and other greenery, Battery Candles and feasting and dancing. For Christmas, the earliest reference is from the Calendar of 354, which mentions the celebration of Christmas on December 25. At the time no one knew the actual birth date of Jesus but it is assumed that Christian leaders picked this date to coincide with many other pagan festivals as a means of facilitating their transition into Christianity. Although today many bible scholars believe that Christ was actually born in the early spring.

The Spread of Christmas Decorations:
The idea of using greenery as decorations was meant to signify rebirth or the birth of Christ. Its believed that the Christmas tree and its decorations originated in Germany, where it was decorated with candles and then later tinsel and hand blown German Glass Ornaments. Queen Charlotte the wife of King George III brought the Artificial Prelit Christmas Trees tradition from Germany and introduced it into England and as German immigrants came to America they also brought with them, their Christmas traditions and decorations. Go here to view the Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Modern Outdoor Christmas Decorations:
As people decorate today they use real and Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland and greenery, including ivy, poinsettias and wreaths to bring a festive mood not only to the inside of the house but the outside as well. Many neighborhoods, communities or even whole towns get together to decorate for the Christmas season with Large Nutcrackers, Christmas Outdoor Lights, Artificial Christmas Wreaths and Prelit Christmas Wreaths and Large Six Figures Lighted Outdoor Nativity Set. Often communities give awards to homes for their outdoor decorations. The same scene is played out in much of the world.

Christmas Decorations

Christmas Decorations.
Christmas decorating in America has evolved over the years. We have taken many different traditions from various countries and made them our own. The way we decorate our trees, string lights, and celebrate Christmas in general have become almost an art form in America. For more information on please go to Christmas Decorations.

Christmas Tree Lights.
For instance, candles used to be used as Christmas lights on Christmas trees. Buckets of water were often placed by the tree in case of fire. Using real candles for decorating became a real fire hazard. The invention of the electric light changed the way we decorated. Soon strings of lights replaced candles. Today, however, Battery Operated Lights and candles have become popular. They tend to be a bit more expensive, but as time goes on, the prices will drop. They are also much more safe to use than real candles. You can string them in your tree or use the battery candle sticks. Many churches now use flameless Battery Candles in their church services because of the ease of using them. There is no fire hazard and they are easy to store.

Christmas Ornaments.
Americans have a tradition of passing ornaments down through generations. It brings back fond childhood memories every year when they start decorating the tree. Every year a new ornament may be bought and added to the collection. Often when a couple is married, they start their own ornament collection. People give wedding ornaments, baby ornaments, and other various ornaments to new families. Decorating the tree is often the highlight of the season because the Christmas tree has become the center of many American homes Christmas display. Many families go and choose a tree together or put up their artificial tree. They have family time and decorate the tree together. Many memories are made and shared when putting up the Christmas tree.

Christmas Wreaths and Garlands.

Another tradition is garlands and wreaths. In the early days, live holly and ivy were used as decoration. Popcorn and cranberries were often strung together. Today though, many Americans use artificial wreaths and garland for their decoration. The artificial variety is a much more popular choice because it can be cheaper and used for many years to come. Artificial garlands can be put almost anywhere from stair banisters to outside light poles. Often wreaths are placed on doors as a welcoming sign.

Check out our great selection of Artificial Christmas Wreaths and Pre-lit Christmas Wreaths. Also our beautiful Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland.

Outdoor Christmas Decorations.
Decorating the outside of ones house has become a huge tradition in America. From lights, to Nativity Scenes, to animated snowmen, the choices are endless. Many Americans put up Christmas lights around their house, trees and walkways. An outdoor Nativity Set is a popular choice for American display. Others choose snowmen or nutcrackers for decoration. Some neighborhoods have competitions for the best decorated yards. Please select this page to view our Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Cat Care Tips.

Groom your cat often.
Whether long haired or shorthaired cats should be brushed often to remove lose hairs. This will help with hairballs as they constantly groom themselves. Here are a few tips. The very first time you brush your cat use a soft bristle brush. Start brushing at the tip of the fur and gently work deeper into the coat to prevent the brush getting stuck in tangles. Always brush in the direction of the coat. Otherwise the brush can irritate the skin and make your cat run the other direction whenever it sees the brush. See our Cute Kittens Polymer Clay Ornaments.

Play with your Cat daily.
Set aside time everyday to play with your cat. Choose activities that will stimulate them mentally and physically. Keep in mind that a cat plays by chasing, swatting and pouncing. You do not have to by expensive toys. Some of your cats favorite toys are probably already in your home. Take a piece of paper and crumple it up in a ball. Toss the paper ball around and watch your cat swat at it and chase it. One of my Turkish Angoras favorite toys was a small jack ball. She would bat it all around the house and loved to jump at it when it bounced. Most cats also love empty paper grocery sacks. Open it up on the floor and scratch the outside and your cat will run inside to check it out. Then just continue to rub or scratch the outside of the bag and your cat will try to paw your hand from inside the bag. See our beautiful Persian Cat Ornaments.
Your cat could potentially be your companion for 10 years or more so do not miss a minute of the fun and love they can provide.

Foundation For A Healthy Diet.

Good Nutrition.
Good Nutrition and Healthy Diet go hand in hand. With the increase in Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Osteoporosis and others, caused by our decline in exercise and dependence on processed and fast foods, its time we get back in shape. The place to start is with what we put in our mouths. Take a look at these wonderful Christmas Cookbooks recipes.
To begin with here are some tips on eating smart;

Chew Your Food Well. There are digestive enzymes in our mouths that help to begin the digestion process of our food. By eating slowly and chewing well we aid those enzymes in doing their work.

Learn When to Stop. It takes a few minutes for the brain to get the message that we have had enough food. By eating more slowly we will know sooner when we are full and avoid over eating and feeling like a stuffed turkey later.

Start the Day Well. By eating a good, well balanced meal in the morning we will be more energetic and more alert. We need to eat well in the morning and the afternoon and cut back on the amount and the heaviness of the food we eat in the evening. This gives our body a chance to burn off the calories and begin to digest the food we have eaten. Try these delicious Farmhouse Cookbook recipes.

To be able to plan a healthy diet we need to understand that good nutrition benefits us both physically and mentally. The food we eat is meant to provide us with the energy we need, the ability to sleep well and should provide our body with all other needs. We need good nutrition for a healthy heart, strong bones and the energy to keep our mind active and alert. Look at these tranquil Standing Yoga Ornaments.

Golf Ornaments

History of Golf:
An urban legend about the meaning of golf is that it stands for Gentleman Only, Ladies Forbidden. But golf is first mentioned in a 1457 Scots statute on forbidden games. One of the earliest golf courses in the world may have been Bruntsfield Links, in the city of Edinburgh where Anytime Is Tee Time. A plaque erected by the City of Edinburgh suggests that the game of golf may have been invented at Bruntsfield Links. Golf is one of the few ball games which do not use a standardized playing area but rather the game is played on golf courses. Go here to view all at the Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Playing the game of Golf:
In 15th century, golfers at St Andrews, established a customary route through the terrain, playing to holes whose locations were dictated by topography. The course that emerged featured eleven holes, laid out end to end from the clubhouse to the far end of the property. One played the holes out, turned around, and played the holes back in. A hole of golf consists of hitting a ball from a tee and once the ball comes to rest, hitting it again. This process is repeated until the ball is in the cup. The goal is to rest the ball to the cup in the fewest strokes possible.

Golf Ornaments:
The definition of Christmas tree ornaments comes to us from the route word ornament which is defined as an accessory used to beautify, enrich, or improve the appearance or general effect of an object. So many golfers love to put up a variety of golfing ornaments to embellish their tree.

Baseball Ornaments

History of Baseball:
Baseball at the professional level is the best-known of the family of related bat-and-ball games. The distinct evolution of baseball from among various bat-and-ball games is difficult to trace with any precision. But the first official game took place on June 19, 1846, in Hoboken, New Jersey, with the New York Nine defeating the New York Knickerbockers, 23 to 1. In 1869 the first professional club, the Cincinnati Red Stockings was created. By the following decade, newspapers were referring to baseball as the National Pastime. The object is to get the puck, which is made of hard rubber into the opposing teams goal and the team with the highest score wins. The players must use their sticks to move the puck around or to pass the puck from one player to another. History of the Nativity Scene

Nativity Scene Sets
The Nativity Creche, or otherwise known as a manger, stable, or crib, is a depiction of the birth of Christ. Depending on your country of origin, the creche could have any of those names, but they all have one meaning. The Nativity Scene can be either two or three dimensional. The Nativity Scene usually consists of a manger, the Holy Family, an ox, a sheep, and donkey. The three Wise Men, shepherds, and angels can also be added. It depends on which time frame you are trying to depict with your scene. Catholics and Protestants put these scenes up in their churches, homes, and parks. In many homes and churches, the baby Jesus is often left out until Christmas day, representing the fact that He has not been born yet.

Origins of the Nativity
St. Francis of Assisi is said to have introduced the world to the three-dimensional Nativity Scene after a trip to Egypt and Acre in 1220. He was said to have used live humans and animals in his set. The idea of the scene soon spread to Germany in the 1600s.

Nativity Traditions
In various countries, there are many different traditions when making and putting up Nativity Scene Sets. In Spain, there are monumental indoor nativities that are put up. They use thousands of kilos of sand, stones and cork, as well as lights, music, water streams, and automatons to create these work of art. In Mexico and other central American countries, they put their scenes up on December 16. In Colombia, it is December 8, known as Candles Day, in English. No matter what time you put up your nativity creche, it will always be a reminder of why we celebrate Christmas. View our Christmas Decorations Ideas. Home Is Where The Heart Is

Honoring Your Mother.
According to Webster to honor someone is to show high respect or esteem. So your Mothers Day celebration needs to be done with the greatest amount of respect you can show for one of the most important people in your life. Also, whatever you decide to do, do not forget to give some type of honorable mention to all the other mothers in your family. With that in mind, here are some things you can do to honor your mom.

If there is one thing moms like its having all of her children together. So plan a special family dinner. It can be a formal affair at a very nice restaurant or in your home or it can be a more relaxed, very informal picnic or barbeque. The decision will depend on your mom and the atmosphere you know she would enjoy the most. See our Womens Workout Ornament.

A very special gift would be to take your moms recipes that you and your siblings love the best and put them into a book. You can each add some of your most cherished moments with you mom. You can include some of grandmas recipes too and a record of some special times between your mom and her mom as well. View the Soccer Mom Ornament.

Another, very cherished gift would be to have a special portrait taken of you and all your siblings. If there is room you can include the spouses and all the grandchildren as well. This is especially nice if it has been awhile since one was taken. See our No Place Like Home Ornaments.

Whatever you choose to do for mom, make sure to give her lots of hugs.
