Nutcracker Decorations

History of Nutcrackers:
For thousands of years people have been eating nuts. Archeologists have found pitted stones dating back as far as 8,000 years ago at many sites around the world that may have been used to crack nuts. So after hitting a nut with a rock for a few thousand years, someone came up with the idea of using a small lever to crack a nut open. And of course artisans like to take a functional design and make it ornate to look more stylish and to be able to sell it for more to their wealthy clients. Over time different types of metals were used in making nut crackers, but then people started making wooden nutcrackers. Within a short time, some of the carvings in Germany and Austria took on the look of people in positions of authority, such as kings, soldiers or policemen. Go here to view more Christmas Nutcracker Decorations.

The Nutcracker Ballet:
Tchaikovskys, The Nutcracker Ballet was first performed in Saint Petersburg, in December of 1892. The ballet was based from The Nutcracker and The Mouse King, which was a story written by E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1816. The Nutcracker Ballet is one of the most popular ballets in the world, performed mainly at Christmas time by ballet companies everywhere. More Christmas Decorations Ideas are here.

Nutcracker Decorations:
Todays wooden figure nutcrackers are mostly decorative in nature and are not used to actually break open any nuts. In the late 1800s Wilhelm Friedrich Fuchtner from the Saxony region in Germany was using his lathe to make many nutcracker soldier of a similar design. Every year hundreds are produced for markets around the world. Being hand crafted they are usually very expensive, but China also makes thousands of inexpensive nutcrackers. Christmas Poems

Christmas Poems.
Christmas time is a rejoiceful time of the year. Because of that, there are many Christmas poems. Whether they be religious, humorous, or for the kids, there are many out there. To view our Christmas Books. Here is one of my favorites:

The Month After Christmas Diet Poem
Twas the month after Christmas,
and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies Id nibbled, the eggnog Id taste at the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber).
Id remember the marvelous meals Id prepared;

The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way Id never said, No thank you, please.
As I dressed myself in my husbands old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt
I said to myself, as only I can
You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chips

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I wont have a cookie, not even a lick.
Ill want to chew only on a long celery stick.

I wont have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, Im lonesome, and life is a bore
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
Author: unknown

This is just a silly poem about the woes of gaining weight during the holidays, but there are many others out there.

Fun Christmas Trivia

Fun Christmas Trivia.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. It is a time to celebrate Jesus birth and give thanks to Him for all that He gave up for us. Select to view Christmas Nativity Scene Sets. Common Christmas traditions vary throughout the world. Here are some fun facts that you probably did not know. See how much you know about the Christmas season and Christmas traditions.

Christmas In America.
Many of the traditions we have today in America come from various countries. These traditions were passed on when immigrants came from their homeland. For instance, the Dutch brought along St. Nickolas. They called him Sint Nickolaas, which was later changed to Sinter Klaas. Here are some more traditions and fun facts passed about Christmas:

  • The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, is thought to be the busiest shopping day of the year. It, in fact, is not. It falls somewhere between the 5th and 10th busiest days. The Friday and Saturday before Christmas come in at number one and two.

  • In 1895, American Ralph E. Morris came up with the idea of electrical Christmas tree lights. This indoor Christmas light was much safer than the candles that were used in years prior.

  • Today in the United States there are 78 people named S. Claus, and there is actually a Kriss Kringle listed as well.

  • In the United States, an estimated 37.1 million live Christmas trees are sold every year. Since 1991, Artificial Christmas Trees For Sale have outsold live trees.

Fun Facts From Around the World.

Christmas is celebrated throughout the world. Here are some interesting facts from other countries:

  • In the Ukraine, the tree is decorated with artificial spider webs. If one is found on the tree, it is thought to be good luck.

  • On December 9, 1842, the first Christmas card was created in England.

  • 7 out of 10 dogs will get a present from their owners this year in England.

Setting Your Scene

Christmas Nativity Sets.
Christmas Nativity scene sets are an important part of Christmas decorations. They tell the story of a baby named Jesus, and his miraculous birth. Setting up the Nativity set is often a cherished event in many homes. There are many ways that the Christmas Nativity scene can be set up. The choice is completely up to you and your traditions. Throughout the world there are different customs and traditions when setting up the Nativity scene. Here are a few customs that vary throughout the world.

Setting Your Scene.
There are a few main pieces that are needed when setting up your Nativity set. The Nativity creches for Nativity sets and crib, along with baby Jesus are at the center of the Nativity scene. Jesus should always be the center of your scene because he is the whole reason for the Nativity. Then Mary and Joseph should be placed on either side of Jesus. Usually an ox or sheep are placed in the manger as well since they were the only other ones present at the time of Jesus birth. Now some people do not place Jesus in the manger until Christmas Eve or Christmas day. This decision is completely up to you.

Additional Nativity Figures.

As for any other Nativity figurines, the shepherds and wise men are usually included. To place the importance of the figures, many people use circles. So Mary, Joseph and Jesus are in the first circle. The shepherds and the kings usually go on the next circle. If you have both shepherds and kings, placing the shepherds closer to Jesus is a more accurate account of Biblical times because the shepherds came before the wise men. Another popular figure is an angel. Placing the angel above the Nativity set is ideal, but if this is not possible, place the angel behind the Holy Family. For new Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Being Santa

Santas Suit:
I have been a professional Santa for over 25 years. But lets talk about getting you ready to step into the big boots and be Santa yourself. First you need a Professional Deluxe Old World Santa Costume. You will also need a little makeup if you do not have grey to white hair, which can be obtained at most costume shops, just ask for white clown makeup and some red as well. Put some of the white on your eyebrows, and then smear a small dab under each eye, this helps you to look older. Now take the red makeup and put a small amount on your nose and high on your cheeks and rub it in. To set the makeup use some baby powder. Now put on the suit and remember to always have a smile on. Go here to view more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Accessories for Santa Magic:
Everyone needs some Santa Jingle Bells, a Red Plush Santa Toy Bag and a few simple tricks to entertain the children with. I carry the tricks and a few simple prizes like candy canes or Christmas tracers in a small shoulder bag. The magic coloring book is a simple and inexpensive trick. Another great trick is the change bag. I like placing a pair of red and white mittens in the secret pocket and then a red mitten and a white one in the main part of the bag. The trick is that since your elves gloves do not match, maybe the children can help you fix them. Thank the children for fixing the gloves and now its time for them to tell you what they would like for Christmas. Here you can view all the Christmas Costumes and Santa Suits.

Easy to Use Battery Operated Candles

Switch to Battery Candles.
Battery operated candles are a wonderful new invention. Gone are the days of using real candles. Many churches and other organizations have switched to battery operated candles because of cost, ease of use and safety concerns. No more messy candles or fire hazard situations. Battery candles are the way of the future.

Save Money.
Battery powered candles are a more cost effective choice than regular candles. Regular wax candles burn down quickly and have to be replaced fairly often. And what about when the wick is not inserted properly? That is another candle that cannot be used. With LED candles, you do not have that problem. Just insert your batteries and go. Many of the new LED battery operated candles have a 50,000 to 100,000 hour life span.

Easy to Use Battery Operated Candles.
Battery candles are easy to use. Once the batteries are inserted, the candle is ready to be used. There is no messy wax to deal with. Just turn it on and go. Windy outside? Battery operated candles work no matter what the weather conditions are like outside. Regular candles burn out with the smallest amount of wind and water. Do you forget your candles are burning sometimes? Fall asleep with them still burning? With battery candles the only thing that will burn down is your batterys charge. Make the switch to battery operated candles today.

Safety.
Probably the most important reason churches are making the switch to battery candles is for safety reasons. Fires are a growing problem with regular candles. Many churches do not allow open flame candles anymore because of the fire hazard they present, as well as insurance issues. Fires cause hundreds of homes to be lost each year. Do not have that happen to you, use battery operated candles instead. Please come see our Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Basketball Ornaments

History of Basketball:
Dr. James Naismith, an instructor at the YMCA, was looking in the winter of 1891 for a game that could be played indoors. Something to keep his students at a good level of fitness as well as keeping them from getting bored through the New England winters. After much thinking he took a peach basket and nailed it to a track 10 feet high. In those early days the basket still had its bottom and the ball had to be taken out after each point scored. His students named it basketball. It wasn’t until 1906 that peach baskets were replaced with metal hoops and backboards. Just a little over a month after its creation, the first official game was held at the YMCA on January 20, 1892. Go here for more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Basketball Ornaments:
The definition of Christmas tree ornaments comes to us from the route word ornament which is defined as an accessory used to beautify, or enrich, the appearance of an object. To many sports fans, anything of basketball is a thing of beauty. So, many fans like to decorate their whole house with a basketball theme or just a few Unique Christmas Ornaments. There is more Christmas Ornaments information here.

Playing Basketball:
Games of the National Basketball Association are played on a wooden court that is 94 by 50 feet, at both ends of the court are the baskets. The game is broken into four quarters, each quarter being 12 minutes long with a 15 minute half-time, which is played by two teams, each with only 5 active players on the court. One of the greatest players of the game was Michael Jordan who was famous for his dunks. View more Sports Ornaments here.

Artificial Christmas Trees

Christmas Trees a History:
It was Saint Boniface in trying to convert the pagan Germanic tribes to Christianity that took a fir tree and gave it new meaning saying. This humble trees wood is used to build your homes, let Christ be at the center of your households. Its leaves remain evergreen in the darkest days, let Christ be your constant light. Its boughs reach out to embrace and its top points to heaven, let Christ be your Comfort and Guide. People from all walks of life are able to look at the Christmas tree and think of Christ and his gifts to all of us. Go here to view more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Artificial Christmas Trees:
People have been looking for ways to mimic nature without chopping down all of her trees. Today most artificial trees are made from PVC and or PE, these are referred to as plastic trees. Manufactures of artificial Christmas trees like to use names of real trees when trying to describe their tree, but since most manufactures do not want to use the same name that a competitor is using they will use a different name for the same type of tree. There are even more Artificial Prelit Christmas Trees here.

Environmental Issues:
Many people prefer an artificial tree which will last well over ten years to cutting down a real oxygen producing tree every year. While some fear that artificial trees are bad for the environment because they end up in landfills. But today there are ways of breaking down the PVC and PE and companies are always working on better and more cost effective ways of doing this to recycle these products. Here you can see Christmas Trees Artificial and tree toppers.

Christmas Ornament Storage.

Christmas Ornament Storage Ideas.
Some people think that all the Christmas Ornament Storage advice that has been printed and the many products produced are for others, who collect expensive, delicate or antique Christmas Ornaments. That is just not true. I do not collect Ornaments but I do have several that my children have made in school over the years. Like the paper Snowmen decorated in cotton balls, a cut out Santa and sleigh covered in glitter and the many snowflakes and angels decorated with lace and other fabric trims. Like many of you, these are my treasures. I look forward to the time when I can turn them over to my children so they can display them for their children.
These are some of the things I have come up with that have helped.

Ornaments made of construction paper and decorated with cotton balls and fabric trims I store separately in an empty filing drawer where nothing can rest on top to smash the cotton balls and other decorations.

When I buy an ornament I always ask if they can put it in a box, then I keep the box. This is especially good for glass balls. It is so much easier to store them back in the box than to try to find one and risk breaking some because you had to stack them on each other to fit in the box.

Use Acid Free Tissue Paper to wrap single glass balls, crystal and other types of ornaments. The Acid Free Tissue keeps the paint from fading. Do not use newspaper the ink can rub off onto your ornaments. We have sets of 480 Acid Free Tissue Paper Sheets.

Put all your ornaments in a sturdy, Acid Free Ornament Storage box. Label each box, that way you can see at a glance what is inside each box. We have beautiful and functional Ornament Storage Boxes.

It is not a good idea to store glass ornaments with the ornament hanger still attached. The hanger could scratch the paint off the ornament.

Store your boxes in the most climate controlled area of your home. This will probably not be your attic or garage. Most of our nicest ornaments can not take the changes in temperature and humidity. See our other Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Tree Storage Bags

Christmas Tree Storage Bags.
What do you do with your Christmas tree after Christmas? If it is a live tree you probably throw it out soon after Christmas. Artificial prelit Christmas trees are a different story. Do you just throw your tree back in the attic or closet, still decorated, only to find it next year with little critters living in it? There is a solution. Tree storage bags are the way to go. Whether you choose poly/vinyl, nylon, plastic, or canvas, they all will help preserve your tree for years to come.

TreeKeeper Storage Bags.
Many contributing factors play a part in the deterioration of your artificial Christmas tree. Dust and rodents can eat away at your tree, so having the right Christmas tree storage bags are crucial. Many animals or insects will find their way into your tree making it their new home. With TreeKeeper artificial tree storage bags, you will no longer have that problem. These bags are made from a long-lasting polyester/ nylon blend. Just put the tree stand into the bag, then pull the bag up over the tree and compress. Your ready to go, no need to take your tree apart. These particular bags fit a 6-9 foot tree. These bags will last for years.

Canvas and Vinyl Bags.
A cheaper solution to artificial tree storage are canvas bags or poly vinyl bags. The extra deep artificial Christmas tree storage bags or the large canvas Christmas tree storage bags are an excellent choice. Each bag requires the trees to be taken apart, but both will hold up to an eight to nine foot tree. Protecting your investment is a must. After all, artificial trees are not cheap, so get a tree bag and store it away the right way this Christmas season. To view more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Electrical Supplies

Christmas Electrical Supplies.
Some of my best memories are from my childhood while decorating the outside yard for the Christmas season. Now that I am older, I see just how difficult that decorating truly was. Decorating your house and yard can be a nightmare. With all the wires and cords, where to plug them all in, remembering to turn the Christmas lights on and off, who has time for that anymore. No more knotted Christmas lights or high electric bills because the lights were left on. With the right supplies, your Christmas decorating can be done with ease.

Extension Cords.
To start off with, three outlet grounded extension cords work wonders. With all the innovations in Christmas decorations, extension cords are a must have to get the full effect in your yard. Now even the largest yards can have large displays with hidden cords.

Photocell Timers.
One ingenious creation was the photocell timer. Just plug your lights in and go. Your lights will come on at dusk and off at dawn. Or you can choose to have them go on at dusk and turn off after so many hours. No more worrying at night, Did I turn the lights off?. Now you know exactly when your lights go on and off because you have the control. Try the three outlet electrical photocell ground stake.

Lighting Displays.
Or maybe you want to create a unique light display. With the three plug motion lighting remote control, you can do just that. Just plug your lights into this handy system and choose from five different settings. The best part is you can do this all from the comfort of your own home. Thats right. With the remote control, you can control your light show without leaving your warm house because the remote works through doors and windows up to 50 ft. away.

With all the new electrical supplies on the market, your Christmas decorating will be a breeze. For more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Battery Lights

History of Light.
Light has been used by man for a long time. Light gives our plants energy, which in turn feeds us. We also get vitamin D from light. Before modern scientific times, light was something that was thought just to be seen by our eyes. By the 1500s and 1600s though, telescopes, microscopes and new lenses were being invented. We could then see things on a smaller scope. Isaac Newton discovered the color spectrum in 1666. Soon the electric light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison. Light is useful in many aspects of our life. It helps us to see at night, directs traffic, helps us see while we read and gives us light for photography. It’s also useful in areas of health such as giving our food vitamin A, helping plants to grow and fights disease. We use light for everything now a days.

History of Batteries.
Batteries came on the scene around 1800. Invented by an Italian, they were rather unstable because they were wet cell batteries. For that reason, wet cell batteries were used to power stationary devices. In 1859, the first rechargeable battery was invented by Gaston Plante. Finally a dry cell battery was invented in 1887 by Carl Gassner that was much safer to use and portable. It changed the liquid material into a paste to make it more stable. In 1955, alkaline batteries were introduced to the public. Up until then, batteries had a short life and were very expensive.

Battery Lights, Together.

Batteries and lights came together. The first battery operated lights were flashlights. Today though, we have battery operated lights. Many indoor Christmas light are battery powered. It allows for mobility of your tree. Also many people use battery lights for weddings. Battery operated lights are popular for outdoor weddings where electrical outlets are unavailable. Please select to view some of our Battery Operated Candles.

Holiday Ribbon.

Types of Ribbon.
Ribbon is woven in various ways and with similar fabrics for different effects. Iridescent ribbon gives a rainbow effect when the ribbon moves.
Jacquards have an intricate, variegated pattern while the ombre ribbon is a woven technique that gives the effect of the colors actually changing hues.
Cotton ribbon is casual and comfortable and cut from bolt fabric sized to maintain its shape and very popular because of the many patterns and colors.
Craft ribbons are cut edge cotton and can be cut lengthwise for narrower widths. Pleated cotton ribbon makes very nice bows.
Velvet ribbon is rich and elegant and made of either flock material or silk that is woven on cotton backing. Velvet comes in colors and prints or embossed designs with images of holiday celebrations and festivals. Most velvet is matte finished and water resistant. View our beautiful Unique Christmas Ribbon.
Satin ribbon is the most fluid and soft satins come in both cut edge and woven edge. The cut edge satin is less expensive but the edges have a tendency to ravel while the woven edge satin tends to ravel on the ends.
Taffeta ribbon is crisp with a distinct watermark design. They are finely woven from silk or rayon with a cut edge. They make beautifully shaped bows that hold their shape.
Moire ribbon has a shimmering watermark finish that is stiffer and more substantial for larger bows. Read more about Holiday Ribbon.
Grosgrain ribbon is made of woven blends and polyester and is heavier than taffeta with a delicate crosswise ribbing.
Organza or Organdy ribbon is soft and sheer and made of silk, cotton or rayon. Organza can be either floppy or crisp with beautiful patterns.
Chiffon ribbon is soft, sheer and very elegant. Metallic Mesh ribbon is stiff mesh that holds its shape and makes wonderful large bows for wreaths and Christmas Tree Topppers. Read more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Holiday Jewelry

Christmas Jewelry.
While this is the time for celebrating Jesus birth and Santa Claus, it is also the time for Holiday Jewelry. Every woman loves jewelry. It is a way to express ones self and also accessorize any outfit. Pins and brooches used to be the primary jewelry worn during the holidays, but now holiday jewelry is becoming much more trendy. From pins to necklaces, bracelets, or earrings, even rings, the choices are endless. Please visit Holiday Jewelry for more information.

Guardian Angel Pins.
For instance, angel pins are very popular. They are given as gifts and worn throughout the Christmas season. The best part is they can be worn year round. Everyone can use a little guardian angel on their side. An angel that protects and watches over a particular person is known as a guardian angel. Some believe that everyone has their own personal guardian angel. Others have their own theories on guardian angels.

Nativity Story Bracelet and More.
Another popular piece of holiday jewelry is anything having to do with the Nativity story. Jesus is the reason for the season, after all. There are Nativity bracelets, necklaces, even pins depicting the Nativity story. They all tell the miraculous story of a baby boy named Jesus being born to the virgin Mary. Whether you choose a brooch or a bracelet, they all show your admiration for the man who gave his life for us.

Pins and Brooches.
Christmas tree pins are another beautiful piece of holiday jewelry. There are many different designs to chose from. There are gold and silver trees decorated with small jewels that look like beautiful ornaments. There are bells decorated with ribbon or poinsettias, or maybe little snowmen with carrot noses. A Glass Crystal Pin is another option. Whatever your style, there is a piece out there just for you.

Western Ornaments

Wild West History:
The Wild West or American Old West is usually considered to be in the time frame from the end of the American Civil War to about 1900. When talking about the Wild West you are talking about a very large area, from North Dakota down to Texas and everything west of those states. That meant these states were the edge of the new frontier, where the rules changed from the civilized east to the lawlessness of the west. Here you could be like the knight errant of medieval Europe, riding around on your faithful horse sticking to your personal code of honor, helping those in need and fighting the bad guys or Indians. It was not until more recent times that Indians were shown to be anything but bad. Such as the Lakota Indians which were given a big reservation that included the Black Hills and no military presence, but then once gold was found in the Black Hills war broke out with the Lakota trying to save their people from repeated attacks and violations of the treaty which gave them the reservation.

Western Ornaments and Literature:
When people talk about the Wild West, visions of openness, freedom and of life in black and white terms are conjured up. This has lead to western themes in ornaments, gifts and decorations. This has also lead to what some people call a state of mind, that they feel a western theme implies a set of codes or personal honor. Some people decorate their entire house in a western theme using a Cowboy Metal Sculpture, while others just do a western Christmas Ornament theme using such items as Clay Ornaments or Cowboy Santa or even a Cactus Christmas tree.
