Christmas Wreaths and Garlands

Early Uses of Wreaths and Garlands:
Wreaths and garlands have been used in festivals and in celebrations for many thousands of years. Its believed that with the wreath forming a circle that it symbolizes eternity, it has no beginning or end. Wreaths were made large and placed on doors or the sides of buildings, probably equal to something like the 72 inch Princess Pine Giant Christmas Wreath which is used today. During the summer celebrations flowers were most often used in combination with other plants to create wreaths and garland or something like the Burgundy Grapevine Christmas Floral Arrangements. Another popular celebration was a wedding. In small villages usually the entire population would be involved in decorating and baking for the wedding. And it seems that ancient people were much like todays people in that everyone looks for any reason to through a party! Click to see our unique Mistletoe, Christmas Greenery, Christmas Picks.

Modern Uses of Wreaths and Garland:
Today, just as anciently, garland is made of many types of things, like the Decorated Country Holiday Garland and is used in a variety of celebrations. But wreaths seem to be primarily used in the fall and winter festivals, especially at Christmas time such as the Decorative Christmas Wreaths. Items made from wood typically last a long time like the Wooden Gingerbread Man Garland, but we can make Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland, which last for several years. Today we can also use artificial materials to make a replica of Popcorn and Cranberry Tree Garland or even a 14 x 9 Norway Pine Artificial Garlands. A popular item today is using tinsel for garland, like the Gold Tinsel Garland. Select to view all our Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Holiday Christmas Stockings.

Every year we decorate our homes for Christmas. We light and decorate the tree and put Holiday Christmas Stockings on the mantle. Christmas Stockings have become a special tradition in many homes. Whether you use 21 inch Burgundy Soft Plush Fireplace Stockings or a 60 Inch Giant Christmas Stocking, having a Christmas Stocking to fill is an important part of the holiday season.

The Dutch and Stockings.
One origin is that Christmas stockings come from the Dutch. Dutch children used to fill their clogs with straw for the reindeer, and in turn Sinterclass (Santa Claus) would leave a small gift behind for them. Sinterclass soon became Santa Claus and stockings replaced the clogs.

The Christian Nobleman.
There is also another version of how the Christmas stocking came to be. In the town of Myra, there was a widowed father with three daughters. His wealth had been spent on his dying wife and he was left with nothing when she passed away. This man worried he would never be able to marry his three daughters off without a dowry for them. A Christian man named Saint Nickolas came through this village and heard the villagers talking about this poor mans problem. Knowing he would not accept any money outright, he threw three bags of gold into each of the girls stockings that were drying by the fireplace. In the morning the gold was found and the girls were soon all married off.

Styles of Stockings.
Now a days, there are many styles of Christmas stockings to choose from. There are 45 inch Extra Large Christmas Stocking and 12 inch red plush Christmas stockings. For the animal lovers out there you can buy puppy dog stockings or a kitty queen photo frame stocking. If you like a western theme, there is the cowboy boot stocking or a western Christmas Stocking. Choosing the Right Santa Suit for You

Deciding on the Suit:
Santa Clause Suits and Santa Costume have a big price range, from as low as 75.00 dollars like the Sherpa Trim Economy Santa Costumes to the Halco Majestic Premium Santa Suits to some that are well over 1,000 dollars. Sizing of Santa Suits is just like that of a suit coat, a regular Santa Suit will fit a jacket size of 42 to 48, but if you wear a size 48 and you might be adding a Santa Suit Stuffer to your Santa outfit then you would want to move up to an extra large which covers sizes 50 to 56 for more comfort. Allow a little more room, as the last sound you want to hear is that of your Santa coat ripping!
If you are participating in a parade, then you might want a Deluxe Santa Suits. But if you are going to be attending a party or some type of event where children will be right there by you, then you might want to go for the Professional Deluxe Old World Santa Costume.

Santa Claus Accessories:
A few of the necessary items are a Professional Santa Wig & Beard Set and a pair of White Knit Cotton Santa Claus Gloves and for that jolly belly you need a Santa Suit Stuffer and of course some Round Santa Glasses. Personally I believe that Suspenders Santa Claus Suit Accessories are also necessary to help hold up those pants. A few items to enhance your Santa Costume would be a pair of Professional Santa Boots and Santa Belts With Decorative Cast Buckle. And to help announce that Santa is here, have a set of Santa Jingle Bells with you. For even more go to Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Santa Stories:
Most children love Santa Claus and they cant wait to ask him questions about the North Pole. If your good at off the cuff answers then you can just make it up as you go. But most people are not and should take some time to think of a history about themselves as Santa. The important thing is to have fun and dont forget to practice a few HO HO HOs.

Mistletoe History

Mistletoe Beginnings.
Most everyone in America is familiar with the Christmas mistletoe ball tradition. Hang it up, and whoever is standing underneath has to kiss each other. This is a popular custom that is shared throughout many homes. But where did this custom originate? It can surely be traced back to the 17th century, but there are many different legends from different cultures depicting this curious plant. Also, it is most intriguing because the mistletoe plant is poisonous. Click for more Christmas Decorations Ideas.

Mistletoe Facts.
Many do not know, but mistletoe is actually a partial parasitic plant. Partial because it can survive on its own through photosynthesis. It grows on trees and will grow roots into the trees, taking nutrients. Mistletoe can live on its own, but it most commonly found living off other trees. There are two different species of mistletoe. Phoradendron flavescens is the type found in North America which is used as Christmas decoration. There is also viscum album, which grows in Europe. In many cultures, mistletoe is thought to be a mystical plant that can heal, protect and help with fertility. Mistletoe will stay green and alive throughout winter, while its host will not. Since mistletoe does stay green throughout the cold winter, it is not a stretch to see why people in history thought it to be a magical plant. Click to see our unique Mistletoe, Christmas Greenery, Christmas Picks.

Kissing Under the Mistletoe.
The kissing under the mistletoe myth comes from Norse mythology. Baldurs mother, Frigga, went to all plants and animals asking them to protect her son and cause him no harm. She overlooked one, mistletoe. Loki, God of evil, found this out and got another to kill Baldur with a spear laced with mistletoe. Baldur was eventually brought back to life. Frigga cried tears of little white berries like the ones on mistletoe. Out of admiration, Frigga vowed to kiss anyone who walked under the mistletoe, so beginning the kissing under the mistletoe myth. See our other Unique Christmas Ribbon.

Toppers For Christmas Trees.

Angel Christmas Tree Toppers.

Fiber Optic Angel Tree Toppers are very beautiful. Their wings come in several shapes and styles.
Lighted Angel Toppers usually carry a mini light candle in one or both of her hands and has more mini lights around the bottom of the base under her gown. These mini lights are the same type of light used to light your Christmas tree. Usually the manufacturer will put a cover, like an acrylic star, over the top of the mini light in each of the Angels hands.
Animated Angel Toppers have very soft, gentle movements. Basically the wings move forward and back. The arms open and close and the head and torso move in a gentle circle to either the left or right. Sometimes the head will bow down a bit as the Angel moves forward. There are also Little Angel Toppers that have a pigtail light cord that allows you to remove a mini tree light bulb from the socket in your Christmas tree and replace it with the pigtail connection.

Most Angel Tree Toppers are exquisitely dressed. The fabrics are very gorgeous. They are made from polyester fabrics but have the look and feel of silk or damask and brocade. They will usually have porcelain heads and hands. The difference will come in the hair. Up to now Angel Toppers heads have been completely porcelain, including the hair. Now there are very exquisitely beautiful Angel Tree Toppers with curly doll hair. I have also noticed that the color of the Angels hair is getting a little darker every year. They are not always blonde anymore.

Santa Christmas Tree Toppers.

There is nothing like a Santa Christmas Tree Topper. These can range in size from 12 to 20 inches and taller. There are Traditional Santa style Toppers and there are Father Christmas Tree Toppers. As with the Angels the fabrics used for Santa and Father Christmas Toppers are absolutely gorgeous. I especially like the poly damask coats and the poly dupioni robes.
