With all of the new Christmas Tree Lights and Outdoor Christmas Decorations being developed today, this true to life recollection of the first Indoor Christmas Light set made in the United States by Ralph E. Morris. One day his Grandson Dale Morris telephoned us at Christmas Decorations and Gifts to set the story straight about how the first Electric Indoor Christmas Tree Lights were invented. Enjoy! This real recollection of how the USA Electric Indoor Christmas Lights was invented is told by Dale Morris. He was told firsthand by the inventor, his Grandfather, Ralph E. Morris of Laconia, New Hampshire. It was the Christmas of 1910 and at that time there were only candles lit the Christmas trees. His father had reached for a small toy that fell under the tree while the candles were burning and accidentally burned the hair on his head, almost setting the tree on fire. It was then that my Grandfather decided there would never be another candle on their Christmas tree. We offer realistic Battery Candles that are a must see!

Mr. Morris was able to purchase a number of small light bulbs from where he worked, The New England Telephone Company. We offer a large variety of many different Replacement Christmas Light Bulbs. He began soldering them together about a foot apart in long strings and then he fastened pieces of different colored crepe papers (red, green, yellow, and blue) around this small wooden ball he had to make the shape of a globe which was then put around each of the light bulbs. He made enough lights to trim the tree with as well as the walls of the parlor. He kept this a big secret from the rest of the family and had been forbidden us to go into the parlors until his big surprise was finished. How Do I Order the Right Size Santa Hat?

Choosing The Right Santa Hat.

You will need to measure the circumference (Distance Around) of the persons head who the Santa Hat is for. The easiest way to do this is to take a tape measure and just measure around the persons head, measure about 1/2 inch above the eyebrows and just above the ears. Do not pull it too tight. You want the Santa Hat to rest comfortably just a little above their eyebrows. This circumference measure will help you decide what size Santa Hat to buy.

The industry standard for measuring a Santa Hat is to lay the hat on a flat surface and measure across the cuff. If this measurement is 10 inches then it is sold in the stores or online as a 10 inch Santa Clause Hat. This measurement does not really let the customer know if it will fit.

The following Santa Hat Sizing Chart is based on the Santa Hats Christmas Decorations Ideas carries. Please note that these are estimates and are not exact. Measurements will vary with the natural shapes of heads and the fabric the Hat is made from. Some have a stiff backing added that will keep them from having any give, while other fabrics have a natural ability to stretch.

Measuring A Christmas Stockings.

This is a very simple yet accurate method for measuring Christmas Stockings. Just lay the Plush Stocking on a flat surface. Take a measuring tape or other measuring device. Place the measuring device at the upper left corner of the cuff and measure down, diagonally across the Stocking to the toe of the boot. This gives you the length of the Fleece Christmas Stocking. For the width of the Stocking, simply measure across the cuff from end to end. We have found that some manufacturers include the hanging loop in their measurement. This can add 1½ to 2 inches to the length of a Red Plush Christmas Stockings. When checking out other websites and make sure you ask how they measure their Christmas Stockings.

Tips on Matching Christmas Stockings.

Here are a few tips we have found that might be helpful when matching an existing stocking. You probably will not be able to find a 100% match. Fabrics, materials and styles have changed over the years and even some of the colors are a bit different. While you may not be able to obtain an exact match you should at least be able to purchase Christmas Stockings that are uniform in size. Eighth Century Mistletoe History:

Balder, the Viking God of the Summer Sun, had a dream that he would die. His mother, Frigga, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, was agitated when she was told about his dream. She proclaimed that if Balder died that everything on Earth would also die. To make sure that he would not die, Frigga went to all the elements of earth and asked them not to kill Balder. The people now thought that Balder was immune from harm because of his mother's request. The children heckled, teased and often threw objects at Balder since he could not be harmed. Balder's rivals, Loki, found a loophole in Balder's mother's request. The logic is that since the mistletoe plant attaches itself on trees and has no ground roots it was not affected by Frigga's request from the elements. Loki then planned a deadly plot and talked Balder's brother Hoder, who was blind, to shoot an arrow for him. The arrow struck Balder and killed him. After hearing of Balder's death all the elements tried to bring him back to life. In Frigga's grief she cried and her tears dropped on the red mistletoe berries turning them white. Balder rose from the dead since the white berries were a symbol of life. Frigga was overjoyed and kissed everyone who walked underneath the mistletoe plant. Mistletoe Miracle Worker Myth:

The Druids in Britain believed that miracles could be performed with the mistletoe. Five days after the winter solstice the Druids would cut mistletoe off oak trees in a special ceremony. The Druids believed that if mistletoe touched the ground it would be contaminated. They used a special stretched out white cloth to catch the falling mistletoe. The mistletoe growing on the sacred oaks was cut with a golden bladed knife. After the mistletoe was harvested, the priest would say a series of prayers over the mistletoe. At the end of the ceremony the leaves were given out. The people believed the mistletoe would keep them safe from storms, heal diseases, provide fertility and protect them from evil spirits. Definition:
The word "Mistletoe" has its origins from two Anglo-Saxon words "tan" (twig) and "mistel" (dung). Another definition derives from the Celtic word for all-heal. Yet another is an Old English version of the word "Mistletoe" is, (misteltan).
The common name of various parasitic plants which the mistletoe plant is classified in the family Loranthaceae. There are two basic types of Christmas Mistletoe The Plant.

United States Mistletoe:
The United States has a variety of mistletoe which is similar to the European variety. Its common name is Phoradendron Flavescens. American Mistletoe The Plant grows in both subtropical and tropical regions from Texas to Florida and North along the Eastern states. It grows on what is known as deciduous trees. It thrives best on Elm and Red Maple trees. The American mistletoe produces more leaves and berries. It also has small yellow, red or green flowers which can bloom in February and March. European Mistletoe:
The European mistletoe was named Viscum Album and grows on a variety of trees such as, juniper and apple. The body or base of the European Mistletoe that attaches to a hoist tree branch has dark green stick like stems. Branching outward from the base stem are several pairs of green pointy shaped leaves growing in clusters. The European evergreen shrub variety also produces small green flowers. Young mistletoe plants do not flower until they have matured in about five years. At the intersection of the stems, red or white waxy berries grow in dense clusters. Mistletoe Folklore:
One of the early beliefs was that mistletoe grew when birds landed on tree branches. The small white berry clusters are often eaten by birds. The bird droppings are left on tree branches and begin to seed. The juices in these white seeds are sticky so they stick too the tree branches. After eating mistletoe seed, birds often wipe their beaks on tree branches to remove the sticky remains. The mistletoe takes about six weeks to start growing. When using Christmas lights, basic precautions should always be observed including the following light safety tips;

Your holiday lights are not toys! To avoid risk of fire, burns, personal injury and electric shock, the lights should not be played with or placed where small children can reach them.

Do not use Christmas lights outdoors unless the lights are marked suitable for Outdoor Christmas Lights use.

Seasonal lights are not intended for permanent installation or use. Store all lights in a dry cool storage area.

Do not mount or place your Indoor Christmas Light near gas or electric heaters, fireplaces, candles or other similar sources of heat.

Do not secure the holiday light sets with staples or nails since they could damage the protective wire coating.

Unplug the Christmas light bulbs when retiring for the night or if the lights are left unattended.

Here are the instructions for our light clips.

To precisely position each bulb, detach the C-shaped light holder and attach it to the clip in front of the remaining piece. With a twist and push motion, insert the light socket into the light holder. C7 and C9 lights fit the larger loop; minis will fit in the smaller opening.
For shingle use slide the straight flat end under the shingle, lifting on the top curl to fit over the shingle. Insert light cord or tube securely in clip. Adjust light to desired angle.
For gutter use, holding the straight flat end roll the curled end of the fastener over gutter lip. Then, insert light cord or tube securely in clip. Adjust light to desired angle.
For Vinyl siding, attach the C-shaped light holder onto the curled part as the notch. Insert light and slide into desired position. Then, insert the tip of the flat straight end of the fastener into the horizontal seam of the siding. Lights are held safely away from the siding surface.
For fences and decks the curl will stretch to fit on deck railings and fences. Then, light cords can be slipped in the hook or the C-light holder can be used to hold individual lights.

Saint Nicholas was an early Christian from an area that is today part of Turkey. He was made Bishop of Myra at a relatively young age and was known for his good works and charity. Being a Bishop he wore the red robes of a Bishop with the white collar, which seems to have been somewhat of the basics for the current red and white outfit similar to the Red Plush Santa Suit that Santa Claus wears today.

Christkind which means Christ Child in Germany, is pronounced kristkint. This also appears to be where the name Kris Kringle comes from, a mispronunciation of Christkind. Martin Luther in an attempt to discourage people from using Saint Nicholas as the gift giver at Christmas time encouraged the use of the Christ Child as a reference to the baby Jesus. Ironically the use eventually became adopted by the Catholic church, even as it was slowly being replaced with Father Christmas.

Santa today has become the advertising spokesman for Christmas! The Christmas Stocking

History of Christmas Stockings:
The legend goes that there was a righteous and honorable man whose wife had died, leaving him to care for their three daughters. The tradition in that country at the time was that a daughter had to have a dowry to be able to get married, as this man was poor he felt his daughters would never be able to marry. One day this information came to the attention of Nicholas the Bishop of Myra, so late one night he went to the mans cottage. Looking in the window he saw that the daughters had washed cloths and hung them around the fireplace to dry, noticing their stockings hanging with the rest of their clothes he took out three small bags of gold and carefully tossed them through the open window into the stockings. The next morning as the daughters were gathering their clothes they found the bags of gold, now they had money for a dowry! Of course each girl married well and lived happily ever after. As this legend grew more people began to leave stockings or small sacks hanging around the fire place in hopes that Saint Nicholas would leave them something as well. Choose A Theme.

This is a matter of taste. Some people have beautifully decorated trees that are a Hodgepodge of ornaments, themes, colors and mementos collected over years.
If this is your first Christmas Tree and you do not have any ornaments or mementos to add to it yet then start simple. Pick a theme like Snowman Christmas Ornaments and choose a few and add one or two colors of Glass Christmas Ornaments Balls to compliment the selection. You can change the look each year by adding something extra or even taking something away, as your tastes and home change.

Adding Large Decorations.

After the lights are turned on, stand a few feet away from the tree and squint. You will see where all the large holes are. Adding Garlands.

Putting the Lights on the Tree.

If you have purchased a Live Christmas Tree it is best to use the mini Indoor Christmas Light Strands. They burn cooler for Live Christmas Trees and have five inch spacing between the bulbs to make it easier to wrap on the tips of your tree.
To add them to a Live Christmas Tree either lay them on top of the branches or gently loop them over the tips. You can put them up the branches from the trunk or just on the tips.
You can add lights to Unlit Artificial Christmas Trees so they stay on from year to year. If you choose to do this it is a good idea to light the tree with strands of 50 Miniature Christmas Light Bulb Sets with Green Wire. It is much easier and quicker to replace a strand of 50 lights than a strand of 100. The top section of most trees is the smallest and can usually be lit with strands of 20 Christmas Light Bulbs or 35 Christmas Light Bulb Sets.

Start at the back of the branch just in front of the trunk and put a light on top of the tip where it joins the branch. Then, working your way to the end of the branch, secure a light to as many of the tips as you like. Then wrap the lights on as many of the tips on the end of the branches as you like. You will crisscross under the center of the branch after securing a light to a tip and then just move from one tip to the next on the ends of the branches.
There are two variations to this process. One is to put the light on top of the tip where it connects to the branch and the other is to wrap the light up the tip and back down so the light bulb is on the end of each of the tips.

Adding C7 Lights For Color.

This is one of the most important questions. Most people find the tree first. The problem is people go tree shopping and fall in love with a tree they simply have to have, only to get home and find it does not fit.

If the tree tries to come down when you do this, either you pulled way to hard or the stand is not stable for the size of the tree. This could be a problem if you have a small, curious child or animals. Which ever tree you choose the final test is called a squint test. Stand back a few feet and squint your eyes at the tree. This will show you all the holes, which would need to be filled with large ornaments or floral picks.
