 Beginning Christmas Lights.

The early Christmas trees were lighted with candles, then glass covers with candles inside or metal lanterns with small wicks hung on the Christmas tree branches like ornaments. With the invention of the electric Holiday Lights tree lighting became much safer. The electric Christmas Lights were one of America's unique contributions to the Christmas holidays that followed the invention of the incandescent electric light bulbs with a carbonized filament in 1879. The next development was the tungsten filament light bulbs. Early Christmas tree lights were simply night-lights strung together to make the light strings. Tungsten which produces the light gives a whiter light and for the same amount of electricity they give out almost three times as much light as the early carbon electric lights would have. The next improvement was the coiling of the tungsten which gave more filament in the same space of the bulbs thus more light. It was found that by using nitrogen-argon inside the bulbs would extend the life of the lights and make the lights more efficient. The nitron-argon filled tungsten bulbs are over twice as efficient as the ordinary tungsten bulbs which has its filament in a vacuum. When general electric commercially introduced the Holiday Lights, they caught on immediately. Edison electric soon followed with an electric Christmas lamp. Miniature Christmas Lights History.

The miniature lights were conceived in 1911 by Ralph E. Morris, an employee of the new England telephone company. In the mid 1940’s and into the 1950’s the country was introduced to the American Christmas bubble lights set. The Christmas bubble light bulbs had a liquid filled colored tube on top of the holiday light. When the Christmas bubble light bulbs heated up, bubbles would rise in the Christmas bubble lights bulb tube. Bublble lights are still a unique Christmas Decorations Ideas that brings back memories of child hood holidays.

Tip: What to do when the bubble lights cease to bubble? Unplug the Christmas bubble lights from the wall outlet. What Is An LED Light?

The newest light on the Christmas scene is the LED (light-emitting diode) lights. The cost of the light is more but the energy savings makes the LED lights the most economical light to date. An LED light is actually a semiconductor device that emits a narrow-spectrum of light when electrically flows through it. The color of the emitted light depends on the composition and condition of the semi conducting material used and the wavelength of the light emitted produces its color. Producing a true white light has bee the most difficult to produce. LED lights are usually constantly illuminated when a current passes through them, but flashing LED bulbs are also available. Flashing LED bulbs resemble standard LED bulbs but they contain a small micro chip inside that causes the bulb to flash or flicker like Battery Candles.

Today new and safer ways to decorate are being developed. One of the newest is the flameless LED battery candles. The new battery operated candles will give any home a safe candle like feeling. These LED candles can also be used safely where there are no electrical outlets. The new battery operated candles will never melt away, never burn down and never need replacing. You can enjoy candles for years without ever having to replace them. You can be safe and have peace of mind with using these flameless candles. These flameless candles are perfect for party tables, wedding tables, and group ceremonies. At night there is nothing like candles lighting up the night. You can also use the taper candle sticks for holiday church services, caroling, school activities, festivals, holiday arrangements or for countless other candle uses. How Christmas Lights Work.

Most of the Holiday Lights today use the parallel Christmas light wiring system. Parallel Christmas wiring provides more than one path of electricity for each light bulb to follow. After the current leaves the light bulb it follows two or more paths before returning to the electrical source. The parallel lights have two wires and each light bulb has its own positive and negative wire connection so if one light bulb burns out the rest of the lights remain lighted. To reduce the risk of overheating your lights, replace any burned out light bulbs promptly using the same wattage replacement bulbs. The voltage of the lights does not change when another set of lights are added. What does change when adding additional sets of holiday lights is the amount of current that passes through the light bulbs. To much current flowing through the light bulbs will cause excess heat and blow out the bulbs. Most Holiday Lights today have fuses to limit the amount of current that will pass through the lights. Select the following link to read additional safety instructions for Safety and Care Instructions for Christmas Lights.

Use this guide to tell the difference between lights bulb styles. Lights that lets light pass through them with little resistance are called transparent lights. If the bulbs scatter the light, like frosted glass, the lights are called translucent lights. If the bulb does not let light pass through the them the lights are called opaque lights.
