History of Unique Christmas Gifts

View Our Online Store:   Unique Christmas Gifts.

The season of giving Unique Christmas Gifts have been associated with Christmas since the Three Kings presented Baby Jesus with the Unique Christmas Gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The first gifts given were simple like a few twigs from a sacred grove, Yard Garden Decor statues of gods and food. Vegetation was given as a gift in honor of fertility and fertility was also celebrated with wheat products. As the years passed the gifts become more elaborate and less edible. The Unique Gifts were exchanged during the New Year’s celebrations in ancient Rome. It wasn’t til the late 1800’s the custom of gift giving was finally transferred to Christmas instead of the New Years.
Most of the Unique Christmas Gifts were given on a voluntary basis, except for some of the leaders who made sure they had plenty of gifts to open. King Henry III started closing down the merchants of England for not liking the gift they presented to him. At this time Christians tried to do away with the gift exchange and focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Their efforts on trying to outlaw the custom they then sought Christian justifications from church leaders. The justifications came from Magi’s act of bearing gifts to baby Jesus and the fact that Christ was a gift from God to the world.  Some countries still waited to give their gifts until January 6th, the day Magi presented the gifts to Jesus.
In the 18th century, Christmas gifts and Christmas Stocking Stuffers started having advertisements. These advertisements suggested that Unique Christmas Gifts were to be bought for the children and dependents, including servants. It wasn’t until later that shopping for Gifts for Him and Unusual Gifts For Mom started being a part of the holiday shopping. Like now, people had a hard time deciding who to buy for. People of little importance were usually given GIM-CRACKS, which have now been replaced with the Christmas Card. Gim Cracks are a cheap showy knick-knack with little or no use.
Even though Gift Giving started back in ancient times, we owe the tradition of Christmas presents to the Victorians. Not only did they bring back the warmth and spirit of Christmas but they started to concentrate more on the children, Unique Baby Gifts and the less fortunate.  The Victorians felt gift giving was an expression of kindness and put a lot of thought and creativity in the gifts. To them the act of giving was more important than the actual present. Later, Americans expanded on the concept and introduced Santa Claus, named after St. Nicholas who was legendary for his generosity.
Santa Claus still delivers Gifts for Boys and to all children in the United States, Australia and Canada. Other countries like the United Kingdom, Ireland, Weihnachtsmann in Germany and Pere Noel in France has their own version of Santa Clause called Father Christmas. Saint Nicholas still brings gifts to the Netherlands, Belgium, parts of Germany and Austria.
Gift giving has become big business for retailers during the Christmas season. By the late 19th century people began to forget about the true meaning of Christmas. It became more of a shopping frenzy that starts earlier and earlier each year. Instead of Christian Gift Ideas  coming from the heart, it’s becoming what people call the “gimme” Christmas. Gifts have almost become a synonymous with Christmas; some people fear the true meaning of the holiday has been overshadowed.  For centuries, people have been giving Unique Christmas Gifts to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas and give gifts that come from our heart.
