Decorating for Christmas is not as intimidating as you might think. One of the easiest ways to narrow down some of your selections is to bring out your creative side and pick something that is near and dear to you or your families’ heart. Choose something that is distinctive of your own personal views that will also bring out your creativeness for everyone to enjoy. After all, it is what all the party planners do.
Here are some ideas for you to consider, if you feel so inclined;
Winter wonderland- turn your home into a winter wonderland by using bright white and blue colors, white linens blue, silver, nickel and pewter. These can all add a nice contemporary touch, and it’s not something you might see in everyone’s décor.
Neutral Christmas- use soft cream and ivory as your main color, then add some natural colors using green and brown accents. Use the soft cream colors in everything from the ornaments on the tree, or stockings that hang from your fireplace, to the table setting on your dining room table. Using just a few neutral colors will give a delicate feeling to your space.
Juvenile Christmas- whether or not you have small children, you can decorate with juvenile Christmas characters like Snoopy, or your favorite cartoon characters that will bring joy to any child’s face. If you have children, have them help you put up your decorations, and they will look forward to decorating for Christmas for years to come.
Snowflakes- if you choose a specific item as your theme then that opens up your options; choose various snowflakes make of glass, metals, resin, cut-outs or even wood. Applying them all over in an assortment of ways will make for a beautiful display.
Start thinking of places that you would like to start decorating for Christmas, and take inventory of what decorations you already have in storage--even if you have already pulled them out and placed them up on display. You can always use more Christmas ornaments, whether it is for the Christmas tree, or to be used at decorative accent pieces. There always seems to be space on your tree for some more ornaments.
Lighting is essential in decorating for Christmas; you set the tone for entire themes using colored lights, white lights, steady or flickering lights, outdoor lighting for your lawn décor, and indoor lighting resembling candlelight. This will all work toward creating an atmosphere of holiday joy.
Your presentation may not be complete instantly, but if you start with one project or area that you would like to accomplish first, finish that area, and then move on to the next, you will get it done in no time. Decorating for Christmas little by little makes your goal attainable. Purchase large items first, like front door wreaths, large sprays of green garland, and large animated figurines for your interior or exterior.
Purchasing large items first will fill up larger spaces, and then if you want to gradually add decorative pieces to enhance your décor later on, you will not have to spend too much at one time. It may take time to achieve your final look, but shopping is half the fun!
