These Golden Holiday Doorbells are about 14¼ inches long. They are made of white and gold braided cord that forms a loop to be hung on a door knob. At the bottom of the loop are 5 other cords which hang down at varying lengths of 3½ to 8½ inches. The large gold Bells at the end of these 5 cords are about 1¼ inches in diameter. Covering where the 5 cords connect to the loop is a small white felt bow with gold glitter on it and a small pinecone painted gold with a green vinyl leaf connected to it all. This Doorbell gives the perfect holiday “jingle bell ring” as the door is opened or closed and helps to bring that wonderful holiday cheer to all. They can also be added to wreaths or garlands. Christmas Bells.
In the United States we tend to associate bells both with emergencies and with such joyous occasions as weddings and Christmas celebrations. This association between bells and Christmas can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when Church officials began to use bells for worship and celebration. Medieval European bell customs, in turn, developed out of a wide array of beliefs and practices associated with bells in ancient times. As Christmas Day progresses, the children of Germany get more and more excited. It is not until after the bells of Christmas ring that they may enter the sitting room where the Christmas tree is decorated and their packages await! Now for the moment for which they have longed! TheTradition of Garland.
The origin of garland making is lost in history. Flower garlands occur in many different cultures. Garlands were often made in Europe during the Middle Ages for festive occasions, and were part of many religious ceremonies. Often they were worn on the body, or made into crowns. Flower garlands also served the purpose of scenting rooms and common areas. Select this link to view our Hanging Metal Door Chimes.
Tinsel was invented in 1610, and was soon used to decorate trees. Tinsel garland was originally made from actual silver. It was beautiful, but prone to tarnishing of course. Attempts were made to use other metals, but with little real success. In the middle of 20th century, real Tinsel Garland gave way to metallic plastic and PVC. Most modern garland is flame and tarnish proof PVC. Select this link to view our Decorative Christmas Wreaths.
The Christmas Tree.
The Christmas tree originated in Germany in the 1800’s. For many it is the focal point of their Christmas decorations and festivities. Originally in the Old World, Europeans adorned their trees with cookies, fruits, and candles. In the 1850’s, German craftsmen perfected the art of glass blown ornaments, and soon Christmas trees shimmered with beautiful glass ornaments. Today’s modern Christmas tree holds lights and ornaments of all varieties and all colors of the spectrum while beneath it are wondrous gifts. A symbol of triumph over winter’s bitter cold, the Christmas evergreen has long inspired hope in the hearts of man. Select this link to view our Curly Gold, Red and Green Foil Garland .
