Army Headquarters.
Army headquarters are located in Washington, D.C. The secretary of the army, a civilian appointed by the president, heads the Army organization. The chief of staff of the U.S. Army serves as the principal military adviser to the secretary. The Army chief of staff also represents the Army on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Army headquarters include the Army Secretariat and the Army Staff. The secretariat consists of agencies that report directly to the secretary of the army. The Army Staff consists of agencies that report to the secretary of the army through the chief of staff. The secretariat and the Army Staff provide professional advice and administrative and technical assistance to the Office of the Secretary of the Army.

The Infantry.
The Infantry is the largest arm in the United States Army ground forces. Infantrymen do a great part of the actual fighting in all wars. Infantrymen travel not only by foot, but also by truck and railroad. Some of them travel by air and water. Some of the weapons used by the infantry are the MI rifle, the carbine, the semiautomatic pistol, several types of machine guns, antitank rocket launchers, mortars and recoilless rifles. Infantry divisions have armored units as an organic part of their organization.

U.S. Army Forces Command.
The The U.S. Army Forces Command, with headquarters at Fort McPherson, Georgia, is responsible for the combat readiness of the Army’s active and reserve forces in the United States, Puerto Rico and reserve forces in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The command directs these forces and supervises their combat training. In addition, it commands the U.S. third Army, which has responsibilities in Southwest Asia and parts of Africa.
Forces Command executes its responsibilities for the Army National Gurad and the Army Reserve and for the land defense of the continental United States, through two armies. These armies are called the CONUS Armies, because they are headquartered in the continental United States. The two armies and their headquarters are First Army, fort Gillem, Georgia and Fifth Army, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The Second, Fourth and Sixth armies were formerly in the continental United States. However these armies are now inactive.

U.S. Army, Europe.
The U.S. Army, Europe, had headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. It directs the Army’s largest permanently based overseas training unit, the Seventh Army, in Germany. It also directs the Army’s largest overseas combat units. The U.S. Army, Europe, commands the U.S. Army Southern European task force in Italy. It is part of the U.S. European Command, which coordinates the activities of all American forces in Europe.
