Our Double Star Ornaments are 4½ inches across and hang from a gold cord. This ornament consists of a hollow, double sided, 5 pointed Star with a second 5 pointed star in between. The Stars are made from ivory colored Capiz Shells in gold settings and are decorated with gold metal. Some of the gold metal strips are twisted for a filigree look. Both sides of the Double Star are the same. Select this link to view our Capiz Shell Christmas Ornaments.
The Star.
The star symbolizes the star that appeared, quite miraculously, in the eastern sky on the birth of Jesus Christ. The star is believed to have guided shepherds and the magi, who were the three wise men from the East, to the newborn king.
One wonders whether the star that shined that night was any different from those of today.
The star was indeed a strange star and people continue to believe that a miracle occurred at the birth of Christ. Select this link to view our Gold and Cream Ornaments.
Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree originated in Germany in the 1800’s. For many it is the focal point of their Christmas decorations and festivities. Originally in the Old World, Europeans adorned their trees with cookies, fruits and candles. In the 1850’s, German craftsmen perfected the art of glass blown ornaments and soon Christmas trees shimmered with beautiful glass ornaments. Today’s modern Christmas tree holds lights and ornaments of all varieties and all colors of the spectrum while beneath it are wondrous gifts. A symbol of triumph over winter’s bitter cold, the Christmas evergreen has long inspired hope in the hearts of mankind. Select this link to view our Christmas Ornament Sets.
Apple
The apple emerged as a celebrated fruit at the beginning of the peopling of Earth and has long been associated in the Christian religion as symbols of temptation. In much of Greek and Roman mythology, the apple is a symbol of love and beauty. An apple is the fruit of possibility. One early legend states that if you slice an apple in half and you see a perfect star inside, good health and wealth will be yours for the New Year. Cherry
Near the Christmas holiday, some people go in search of a cherry tree. A branch is carefully cut from the tree. At home the cherry stem is placed in water in hopes that it will bloom before Christmas. If blooms appear, then the entire household will receive good luck for the year to come. The blossoms also forecast a short winter ahead. Select this link to view our Angel Ornaments.
