The Merry Christmas Sign
is about 9½ inches long and 3½ inches tall. It is made of durable light weight molded plastic. Why are Red and Green used as colors for Christmas?
No one really knows for sure why Red and Green are symbols for Christmas. One theory is that Green is the color of the evergreens that symbolize rebirth and new life. The holly berry seems to be responsible fro the red. The red berry that lives through winter, symbolizes like in the face of death. Hence both colors represent Christ. Candy Cane Cookie Recipe.
Ingredients.
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened.
1/2 cup shortening1 cup of confectioners sugar1 egg1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla2 1/2 cups flour1 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon red food color.
Directions.
1. Heat oven to 375.2. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening,
confectioners sugar, egg and flavorings.3. Blend in flour and salt.4. Divide dough in half
;blend food color into one half.5. Shape 1 teaspoon dough from each half into 4-inch rope.
For smooth, even ropes, roll them back and forth on lightly floured board.6. Place ropes
side by side; press together lightly and twist. Complete cookies one at a time. 7. Place on
ungreased baking sheet; curve top of cookie down to form handle of cane.
Bake about 9 minutes or until set and very light brown. If you wish, mix 1/2 cup of crushed
peppermint candy and 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Immediately sprinkle cookies with candy mixture;
remove from baking sheet.
If using self rising flour, omit salt.
