History of the French Poodle:
Although the Poodle is usually referred to as the “French” poodle, it’s believed that the Greeks originally bred it for sea sponge diving, and then later the Spanish adopted it for lobster diving. They come in different sizes, with the Standard (more than 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders), Miniature (10-15 inches) and Toy (less than 10 inches at shoulder height) groups recognized by the AKC. The poodle carries itself proudly, is extremely intelligent, and has been used in circus performances for centuries, as it’s a natural performer. The German word ‘Pudel’ means ‘one who plays in the water‘ while the French refer to it as the ‘Caniche’ or duck dog. They have a thick, curly coat, which is usually shaved in different ‘cuts’ if the dog is being shown, such as the Continental, or the English saddle cut. Due, in part, to its incredible popularity it is also the national dog of France. Select this link to view our unique Christmas ornaments.

History of the Chihuahua:
The Chihuahua is a well-known, small breed dog, whose more recent familiarity is the by-product of celebrities such as Paris Hilton, commercials such as the “Taco Bell dog” and has earned the breed the nickname ‘accessory dog’. However, the diminutive pet has ancient ancestry, dating back to Aztec civilization, where the dog was revered. Although there are a few theories as to the origins of this tiny dog ranging from Spanish roots to Chinese miniature breeding, its reputation for being spunky, fiercely loyal and full of personality has remained in the forefront. AKC ratings require that the Chihuahua weigh no more than six pounds and some are so tiny (teacup) that they can stand in the palm of your hand! They come in a variety of colors, and in both short and long-haired breed types. The Chihuahua tends to find a ‘favorite’ in the family, and don’t usually work well for families with small children, as they’re somewhat jealous and tend to bite when frightened. History of the Rottweiler:
The Rottweiler’s history dates back to the Roman Empire, where these medium-large, black and mahogany colored dogs herded live cattle that were used to feed the Roman legions. The dog remained an important part of the cattle region but declined in the 19th century, until the buildup towards WWI and the need for ‘police dogs’. The Rottweiler’s strength, intelligence and ‘trainability’ made it a natural guard dog. This breed requires good training from a solid, competent owner who is capable of providing firm guidance and possesses the physical strength needed to control the dog. Over the last several years and due to poor breeding, inadequate training and/or abuse, attacks on humans (especially children left alone) have led to the classification of Rottweilers as ‘dangerous dogs’, although most reputable owners/breeders would describe these animals as loyal, loving, protective and fond of children. However, because of the dog’s size, strength and natural guarding tendencies, its best to monitor them and ensure that they’re never left with anyone who’s incapable of handling them. History of the Beagle:
It is believed that the Beagle gets its name from either the French word for small, ‘beag,’ or the celtic word for gape throat, ‘bgueule.’ These dogs have possibly been around since as early as the 1400’s as scent hunting hounds. Although it is not clear which dogs were bred to produce the Beagle, it is clear that these dogs are excellent small game hunters who are easily able to be followed on foot. Some methods of hunting with beagles include using one Beagle to draw out the game, two Beagles to chase the game towards the hunter (drag hunting), and hunting with a pack
