Legend of The Candy Cane.
Candy Canes are a stick of striped, hard candy bent into a hook at one end. They have been associated with Christmas for over three centuries. Legend attributes the origins of the candy cane to the choirmaster of cologne Cathedral in the 1670’s. Bothered by the noise of children attending the church’s nativity scene, he had candies made up in the shape of a shepherd’s crook and gave them to the young children to encourage them to be quiet. The shape of the cane soon led to them being hung from German Christmas trees, where sweets were a common decoration. Select this link to view our Santas Elves and Children's Santa Claus Costume.
Candy Cane.
The candy cane to many is a delicious Christmas treat. Centuries ago, a simple candy maker needed to create a perfect gift for the King. The candy was shaped into an upside down “J” in order to represent the Good Shepherd’s staff. However, the candy maker wanted it to mean more. He added white and red stripes. The white represented the birth of Christ and the red would stand for the blood Jesus shed. The candy maker knew this would be the most perfect gift the King had ever received. Christmas Stocking.
Christmas stocking is an empty sock or sock-shaped bag that children in the United States and some other cultures hang on Christmas Eve so that Santa Claus can fill it with small toys, candy, fruit, coins, or other small gifts when he arrives. These small items are often referred to as stocking stuffers or stocking fillers. In some Christmas stories, the contents of the Christmas Stocking are the only toys the child receives at Christmas from Santa Claus. Other presents are wrapped up in wrapping paper. Tradition in western culture dictates that a child who behaves badly during the year will receive only a piece of coal. By tradition, the stocking is hung on the fireplace, but, since many modern homes do not have fireplaces, stockings may be hung in almost any location. The tradition started up in Germany. One traditional practice is to reserve the stocking for five gifts that stimulate each of the five senses, for example: Something to eat, like fruit or candy. A toy or other item that makes a noise (this can even include nuts to crack). An item that is visually pleasing in any way like jewelry, cuff-links or a coloring book.
