Tips for hanging Garland.
The first thing you need to do is measure the area you want to cover with artificial garland. When measuring around windows and doors its best to include the trim molding in your measurement. This way the garland won’t get caught in the door. Measure your stair rail from the top to the bottom of the stairs. If you plan to wrap the garland around the rail just double or triple your measurement, depending how tight you want the wrap to be. There are many ways to secure the Tinsel Garland to your walls, stairs, or fireplace mantel. It is basically a personal decision. You can use anything from thumbtacks, small finishing nails or tape. It just depends on the surface and finish of the object you are securing the Tinsel Garland to. I do recommend that you not put a hole in your doorway or window trim molding. Instead, if you need to use a nail or thumb tack, use a very skinny one. There are very short and narrow finishing nails available at most hardware stores. You can put them in the wall just above the trim molding at each corner. Double wrap Tinsel Garland, around the small nail to hold it in place. Artificial and Tinsel Garlands can accent windows, doorways, stairs, balconies and fire place mantels. The first thing you need to do is measure the area you want to cover. When measuring around windows and doors make sure you include the trim molding in your measurement. This way the Garland won’t get caught when you open the door or window. Measure your stair rail from the top to the bottom of the stairs. To make sure you have the right number of Garlands to wrap around the rail, double or triple your measurement, depending how tight you want the wrap to be. The looser you wrap, the longer the Garland will drape. Select this link to view our Silver Foil Garland with Multi Colored Bulbs.
TheTradition of Garland.
The origin of garland making is lost in history. Flower garlands occur in many different cultures. Garlands were often made in Europe during the Middle Ages for festive occasions, and were part of many religious ceremonies. Often they were worn on the body, or made into crowns. Flower garlands also served the purpose of scenting rooms and common areas. Select this link to view our Curly Red Tinsel Garland.
Tinsel was invented in 1610, and was soon used to decorate trees. Tinsel garland was originally made from actual silver. It was beautiful, but prone to tarnishing of course. Attempts were made to use other metals, but with little real success. In the middle of 20th century, real Tinsel Garland gave way to metallic plastic and PVC. Most modern garland is flame and tarnish proof PVC. Select this link to view our 6 Foot Red Berry and Pine Cone Decorative Christmas Garland.
