The Tradition of Garland.
The origin of garland making is lost in history. Flower garlands occur in many different cultures. Decorated Country Holiday Garland were often made in Europe during the Middle Ages for festive occasions, and were part of many religious ceremonies. Often they were worn on the body, or made into crowns. Flower garlands also served the purpose of scenting rooms and common areas.
Tinsel was invented in 1610, and was soon used to decorate trees. Tinsel garland was originally made from actual silver. It was beautiful, but prone to tarnishing of course. Attempts were made to use other metals, but with little real success. In the middle of 20th century, real Tinsel Garland gave way to metallic plastic and PVC. Most modern garland is flame and tarnish proof PVC. Select this link to view our Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland.
Adding Garlands to your live or Artificial Christmas Tree.
Adding woody Pine Garland with berries or fruit to your tree adds great contrast and texture. Also the addition of a glitzy Tinsel Garland can add color and sparkle to your tree. Add either Tinsel or Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland to your tree after you put your lights on and before you add any ornaments. For a fairly full, 7.5 foot tree you will want to add two or three Pine Garlands. Depending on how wide your tree is and how much of your tree you want to cover with the Garland. Start adding the Pine Garland from the bottom of the tree and work your way up. The bottom of the tree is the fattest part and will take the most Garland. You can either wrap around the tree or use a series of swags. The method for adding Tinsel Garland is the same. The difference is that you can cut Tinsel Garland into different lengths and add them here and there as you like. You can add Ribbon in the same manner as either type of Garland and with the same effect. Select this link to view our Mirrored Disco Ball Garlands.
Decorating with Artificial or Tinsel Garlands.
Try wrapping Artificial or Tinsel Garlands around a banister railing, pole or pillar. To add color to a room you can drape Garlands over picture frames, from ceiling corners or even around a chandelier. Choose a theme and hang glass balls or other Miscellaneous Holiday Ornaments from the branches of Artificial Garland or weave a strand of colorful Bead Garland through the boughs of Pine Garland. You can add more glitter and glitz by wrapping a strand of Bead Garland around Tinsel Garland so that the Beads make short drapes across the length of the Tinsel Garland.
