History of Popcorn.
The Cranberry.
Each kernel of popcorn contains a certain amount of moisture and oil. Unlike most other grains, the outer hull of the popcorn kernel is both strong and impervious to moisture and the starch inside consists almost entirely of a hard, dense type. Select this link to view our Wooden Cranberry Garland.
As the oil and the water are heated past the boiling point, they turn the moisture in the kernel into a superheated pressurized steam, contained within the moisture proof hull. Under these conditions, the starch inside the kernel gelatinizes, softening and becoming pliable. The pressure continues to increase until the breaking point of the hull is reached. The hull ruptures rapidly, causing a sudden drop in pressure inside the kernel and a corresponding rapid expansion of the steam, which expands the starch and proteins of the endosperm into airy foam. As the foam rapidly cools, the starch and protein polymers set into the familiar crispy puff. Select this link to view our Decorative Candy Garland.
Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing. They are found in acidic bogs throughout the cooler parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Select this link to view our Burgundy Shatterproof Bead Garland.
Cranberries are low, creeping shrubs or vines up to 2 m long and 5 to 20 cm in height, with slender, wiry stems, not thickly woody, and small evergreen leaves. The flowers are dark pink, with very distinct reflexed petals. They are pollinated by domestic honey bees. The fruit is a false berry that is larger than the leaves of the plant. It is initially white, but turns a deep red when fully ripe. It is edible, with an acidic taste that can overwhelm its sweetness. Select this link to view our Beaded Gold Rope Garland.
Cranberries are a major commercial crop in certain US states and Canada. Most Cranberries are processed into products such as Cranberry Juice, Cranberry Sauce. Cranberries can also be sweetened and dried or sold fresh. Cranberry sauce is regarded as an indispensable part of traditional American and Canadian Thanksgiving menus and European winter festivals.
