At night they danced in fairy rings to the music of crickets and grasshoppers. They lived only in houses with human beings and they wanted the floors to be spick and span. The good servant always left a bowl of water by the fire for them because they loved water. The custom of leaving milk and cookies on Christmas eve may have been influenced by their practice.
