The old fashion gold hand bell has a wooden handle. The caroling bell is decorated with a red, green and gold ribbon bow with berry decoration attached to the middle of the bow. A red ribbon wrist band is connected at the top of the bell handle through a gold eye hook. Great for shaking those winter blues away. A nice finishing touch for Santa. Getting into the Santa Claus Mood:
Santa Claus is the most famous and beloved gift givers of the Christmas holiday season. Santa’s descendants of old European gift givers lived around the years 304 to 345. The history of Santa Claus begins with Saint Nicholas of Myra who was an early Christian bishop of Asia Minor. Many stories are told of Saint Nicholas gift giving. Here is one of the stories. This story firmly links St. Nicholas with the costume of hanging up the Christmas stockings and the spirit of gift giving. A father in Myra was unable to give his three daughters in marriage because he did not have a sufficient dowries to present to their future husbands. The father was desperate and was about to give his daughters up to lives of slavery. St. Nicholas heard of the fathers intentions and that night he secretly climbed onto their roof and dropped three purses of gold down the chimney. Instead of landing on the hearth the purses dropped in some stockings that were hanging by the chimney to dry. To see our wide selection of Christmas Stockings. By the twelve century St. Nicholas was the patron saint of children and gifts were given to children in his name on the eve of his feast day of December 6. Children would leave out stockings or shoes for St. Nicholas by the windows or doors since chimneys were rare in Europe at that time. Dutch settlers founding New Amsterdam which is now New York City brought the St. Nicholas customs to North America and ultimately to Christmas itself. Today it is only fitting that St. Nicholas’s relics lie not only in Bari, Italy but also at the Greek Orthodox Church in New York City where the beloved Saint of children is celebrated every Christmas here in this country.
