Nativity story
About two thousand years ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a carpenter named Joseph. an angel appeared to Mary and told her she was going to have a special baby who would be the Son of God and that she must name him Jesus.
Mary was due to have her baby when she and Joseph had to go on a long journey to Bethlehem, to pay their taxes. At times Mary would ride on a donkey over the hills of Galilee.
When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem, it was crowded with all the other people who also needed to pay their taxes. Mary was tired and needed a place to rest but the inn keepers of each inn told them there was no room, except one kind innkeeper who said he had a stable where he kept his animals and they were welcome to stay there.
A few hours later, Mary gave birth to her son in the stable. She wrapped him in swaddling cloth and laid Him in a manger of hay.
On a hillside overlooking Bethlehem, shepherds were watching their sheep when they saw a bright star in the sky above them. At first they were afraid but an angel appeared and told them not to be afraid and that he had good news. The angel said the Jesus had been born and they would find Him in a manger in Bethlehem.
They were filled with joy to see the baby Jesus and knelt down and worshipped Him. They told Mary and Joseph about the angel and that they knew Jesus was to be the Savior of the world.
Three wise men also saw the star and heard the news about the baby Jesus, so they went to Jerusalem to see King Herod, thinking he could tell them where to find the baby. When they asked to see the King of the Jews, the king was angry and thought the new king might be a threat to his power, so he tricked the wise men and told them to tell him when they found the baby so that he could go and worship the child as well.
The wise men followed the star to Bethlehem, where they knelt down and worshipped Jesus and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Later an angel warned the wise men that King Herod really wanted to kill Jesus and for them not to go back to Jerusalem.
The wise men obeyed the angel and returned to their own lands. And Joseph and Mary took the baby Jesus to Egypt. Select this link to view our Unique Christmas Ornaments.
