Pine Cone
Many of the first Christmas ornaments were modeled after forms that are found in nature. Pinecones, which grow abundantly throughout forests, were one of the first ornament shapes glassblowers created. Due to their abundance, pinecones symbolize motherhood and fertility. By giving this ornament to a young bride and groom, their marriage will be blessed with the gift of family. Select this link to view our Santa Hats.
Poinsettia
In some villages across the world, it is customary to leave a gift in the church on Christmas Eve for the Baby Jesus. A long time ago in Mexico, a young child was very poor and did not have a gift to give. He prayed for an answer to his problem. God looked down and saw how upset this small child was and so he answered his prayer. Where the humble child knelt a flower of vibrant color bloomed. The flower blossomed in the shape of a star with leaves of an amazing red. This flower became the child’s gift. Later it became known as the “Flower of the Nativity.” Today the flower is called Poinsettia after Dr. Joel Robert Poinsett, and American Ambassador to Mexico who introduced it to the United States during the 1800’s. Christmas Spider
Proud of her Christmas tree, an elderly woman left to attend Christmas Eve Services. While away, a white spider spiraled the tree marveling at the decorations. Realizing he left his webbing all around the tree, he scurried away. Shortly afterwards, Santa arrived. Knowing the lady would be devastated by the spider’s unwelcome contribution, he added glitter to all the webbing on the tree and created a shimmering sight to behold. The woman returned to delight in the sparkling addition made to her tree. And thus “tinsel” was created. Select this link to view our Baby First Christmas Stockings.
Icicle
It is said that one winter a little child was wandering in the forest during a terrible snowstorm. A gentle fir tree welcomed the child into its branch3es and sheltered the child through the night. In the morning, the child was very grateful and thanked the tree many times for its shelter. After the child left, the tree learned that the child was a Christkind, and innocent child of Christ. Proud of its act, the tree wept with joy. Icicles formed and glistened beautifully in the sun. Icicles symbolize the strength of winter and the brilliance of a good deed.
