At the top of the ornament is engraved, “God Bless Baby’s First Christmas.” In the middle of the ornament is a Silver ribbon, to distinguish it as the Boy's version of this ornament.
Silver
Also known as Ag by scientists (Latin abbreviation of Argentum), is the most conductive of the metals on the periodic scale, but it is more prone to tarnish and is much more expensive than Copper, which is why Copper has been more commonly used. Sterling Silver is an alloy and contains less than 93% pure silver. Typically to make Sterling Silver, pure silver is combined with another medal, most commonly Copper.
During WWII Silver was actually used as a conductive medal in the process of enriching Uranium, but this was mainly due to a shortage in Copper. You may also find small amounts of silver in your food, referred to as a food coloring, E-174 and more commonly found in icings for cake.
Coloring something ‘silver’ requires not only a color representation of silver itself, but requires a finish that causes the color to glitter or sparkle, in order to give it the ‘metallic’ property. The metallic color it gives off actually has to do with the manner in which light reflects off the surface of the paint, or other form of coloring.
