This very Attractive Velvet Stocking is 19 inches long. The body of the stocking is dark red with replicas of very ornate ornaments that seem to float down the front. The ornaments are designed with satin or lame fabric back grounds and overlaid with different colored sequins and beads. Beads are also used to represent strings that the ornaments hang from. The stocking is trimmed around the edge with red and gold braid with the same braid being used as the hanging loop. Select this link to view our Christmas Stockings.
Christmas Story
Starting on December 6th and lasting until January 6th, Christmastime is celebrated continually throughout Germany. It is a time for joy and thanks. Spirits run high as everyone comes together. Whether for dancing or just for entertainment, music is always played as part of the festivities. One of the most distinctive instruments heard in the nostalgic air is the horn. They are still heard today throughout the streets of German villages bringing laughter and cheer to all. Horns are used in churches across the world as a special addition to the liturgical season. Christmas Decorations
Christmas ornaments can be made of glass, metal, wood or ceramics and are used to decorate Christmas trees. Originally people hung things like candy, fruits, paper decorations and candles. Today we have all shapes and sizes of ornaments from simple balls to very ornate finial shapes. Ornaments are almost always reused year after year and family collections often contain a combination of commercially produced ornaments and items that have been hand made by family members. What is Velvet?
Velvet is a type of tufted fabric in which the cut threads are very evenly distributed, with a short dense pile, giving it its distinct feel. Velvet can be made from many different kinds of fibers. It is woven on a special loom that weaves two pieces of velvet at the same time. The two pieces are then cut apart and the two lengths of fabric are wound on separate take up rolls. Velvet's knitted counterpart is velour. Velvet was very expensive and was considered to be among the luxury goods together with silk. Corduroy and velveteen were considered the "poor man's velvet" when they were first produced. Select this link to view our Santa Claus Hats.
Panne is a type of finish for velvet which gives it a special shiny look, similar to velour.
Velvet can be made from silk or cotton. However, synthetic velvets have been developed, mostly polyester, viscose, acetate and mixtures of different synthetics, or synthetics and natural fibers. A small percentage of lycra can be added to allow the fabric to stretch. Select this link to view our Santa Suits.
