There are many ways to secure Garland to your walls, stairs, or fireplace mantel. It is basically a personal decision. You can use anything from thumbtacks, small finishing nails, ticky tack or tape. It just depends on the surface and finish of the object you are securing the Decorated Country Holiday Garland to. I do recommend that you not put a hole in your doorway or window trim molding. Instead, if you need to use a nail or thumb tack, use a very skinny one. There are very short and narrow finishing nails available at most hardware stores. If you must use a nail put them in the wall just above the trim molding at each corner, that way the holes will be small and less noticeable. Attach the garland to the nail by double wrapping the Tinsel Garland or a Pine Garland tip around the small nail to hold it in place.
For fireplace mantles I have found that two sided tape or ticky tack holds well and does not harm the finish. Otherwise I use a small thumb tack, but never a nail. Select this link to view our Artificial Garland and Lighted Christmas Garland.
When Germany was divided after World War ll, Baron Henning Von Royk-Lewinski and Richard Kinzer, the former president of Burlington Mills, founded the Wooden Church Crusade, a charitable organization established to build churches in war torn areas of West Germany. It was their goal to build as many churches as there were American States at that time and when completed their efforts resulted in more than 25 churches being built. They wanted the ringing of the bells in these churches to be a reminder to everyone in the Western communities that with God came peace, and the bells would also toll loudly enough to give those across the Eastern border hope for such peace. Every church has become a symbol for the solidarity between the United States of America and former Western Germany in the fight against communism and the fight for peace. Nutcrackers originated in the 19th century in the eastern region of Germany. Life was tough for many people, who worked long hours as miners and endured hardships and poverty. Often the miners watched as the fruits of their labor were confiscated by their superiors. Nutcrackers were cleverly designed to resemble the authoritarian figures of kings, policemen, and soldiers. The townspeople enjoyed these caricatures of their rulers, since the Wooden Nutcrackers Soldiers were placed at their service to perform the lowly task of cracking nuts. No holiday table can be without a bowl of nuts and a handsome Nutcracker!
Nutcrackers were especially popular with Germans who coined the phrase, Gott gibt die Nusse aber knaker muss man sie selbst or God gives the nuts but we have to crack them ourselves, which was intended to teach children that life was hard but rewarding. This phrase made the nutcracker a favorite toy, possibly because it enabled children to reach one of life’s rewards more easily. Select this link to view our Nutcracker Ornaments.
