TheTradition of Garland.
The origin of garland making is lost in history. Flower garlands occur in many different cultures. Garlands were often made in Europe during the Middle Ages for festive occasions, and were part of many religious ceremonies. Often they were worn on the body, or made into crowns. Flower garlands also served the purpose of scenting rooms and common areas. Select this link to view our 14 x 9 Norway Pine Artificial Garlands.
Tinsel was invented in 1610, and was soon used to decorate trees. Tinsel garland was originally made from actual silver. It was beautiful, but prone to tarnishing of course. Attempts were made to use other metals, but with little real success. In the middle of 20th century, real Tinsel Garland gave way to metallic plastic and PVC. Most modern garland is flame and tarnish proof PVC. Select this link to view our 14 x 9 Norway Pine Pre Lit Artificial Christmas Tree Garland.
Poinsettia History.
In some villages across the world, it is customary to leave a gift in the Church on Christmas Eve for the Baby Jesus. Along time ago in Mexico, a young child was very poor and did not have a gift to give. He prayed for an answer to his problem. God looked down and saw how upset this small child was and so he answered his prayer. Where the humble child knelt, a flower of vibrant color bloomed. The flower blossomed in the shape of a star with leaves of an amazing red. This flower became the child’s gift. Later it became known as the “Flower of the Nativity.” Today the flower is called Poinsettia after Dr. Joel Robert Poinsett, an American Ambassador to Mexico who introduced it to the United States during the 1800’s.
