This Cowboy Santa is about 9½ inches tall. This Golfing Santa has a metal spring under his head that allows the head to “bobble” around. This Bobble Head is made of resin. Looking at this figurine it’s easy to see that Santa likes to spend his off months playing Golf. This Western Golfing Santa is using a red chili pepper as a Golf Tee with a small spring holding the Golf Ball and an “ok” branding iron as a Golf Club. History of Cowboy.
A cowboy is a man who takes care of large herds of cattle. American cowboys ride over the western plains, watching the cattle and hunting for animals that are lost. The jingle of their spurs and the hiss of their twirling ropes are notes in the song of their trade. Their work is the beginning of the American meat and leather industries. Before the days of modern transportation, cowboys had to drive cattle many miles to market towns. Today, most ranches have loading chutes from which cattle are loaded into trucks and taken to market. Another job of the cowboy is to round up the cattle to be branded and culled, or divided into separate groups of prime beef cattle and cattle unsuitable for sale. Some ranches brand and market beef all year round, other ranches have spring and fall roundups where they cut out or select, beef for market during both roundups. The ranchers mark or brand is burned into the skin of each calf. Each rancher has his brand registered with the State Sanitary Board, as being placed on a certain side and portion of his animals. History of Golf and Golfing Santa.
Golf as we know it was originally played in Scotland with a leather covered ball stuffed with feathers. Much earlier, the Romans in their day of empire played a Golf like game called paganica. It was played in open countryside, with a bent stick and a ball stuffed with feathers. They occupied parts of England and Scotland from about 100 BC to about AD 400. The earliest written evidence of the existence of golf dates back to 1457. In that year, the Parliament of King James II prohibited the playing of “futeball and golfe” because they had become so popular they threatened the practice of archery for national defense. This law apparently remained in effect until the invention of gunpowder, near the end of the 1400’s, which made archery less important and restored golf to the people. The game was played with the feather ball until a ball of solid gutta percha was introduced about 1850. The present rubber ball was invented in the United States in 1899. The Golf Tee.
Each Golf hole begins at the Tee, a small flat area from which the golfer takes the first stroke or shot. This stroke is sometimes called a drive. Before hitting the ball, the golfer places it on a wooden or plastic peg that is also called a tee. The peg may only be used on the tee.
