Angel Playing the Lyre

Our Angel Playing the Lyre Ornament is 4 inches tall and has a gold cord hanging loop. The Angel is wearing a long Palatinate purple frock with full, � length sleeves with bronze edging and a bronze collar with red jewels painted on and a ruffle at her waist. The Angel has another set of tight fitting, bronze colored sleeves that come to a point below her wrists and an ultramarine scarf around her shoulders. The front of the frock is split at the waist and opens down the front to reveal a long, elegant bronze colored skirt with dark mustard yellow flowers and green leaves etched in. The Angel has antiqued bronze, feather wings. The beautiful Angel is standing on an antiqued bronze colored base with her bare feet peeking out from under her skirt. There are a number ideas about the symbolism of the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. One suggests the gold represented a gift fit for a king. Frankincense was given as a symbol of Jesus becoming the high priest. Myrrh was used in making medicines and would symbolize Jesus becoming a great physician and healer. Another opinion is that these gifts were a kind of symbolic foreshadowing of what the life of this baby would be. Gold, given in recognition of Jesus being a king and the Frankincense and myrrh were used to prepare a corpse for burial. MyrrhAnciently Myrrh was used as a medicine, in the embalming process. It was burned to fumigate sick rooms and for use as incense. The oil was used in perfumes and lotions and was one of the ingredients in the anointing oils in ancient temple services. Arabia supplied the Mediterranean and Asia with Myrrh and Frankincense which became so highly valued and difficult to obtain that it was a luxury which could only be afforded by the very wealthy.
