Silent Night Chapel.
In 1816, the world’s most beloved Christmas song, “Stille Nacht” or “Silent Night” was written by Father Joseph Mohr. Franz Gruber, Mohr’s friend, composed the music. “Stille Nacht” was sung, in German, for the very first time on Christmas Eve in 1818 in the St. Nikolaus Church, Oberndorf by Salzburg, Austria.
The organ was broken, so the song was accompanied by guitar. In 1907, St. Niklous Church was damaged in a flood and torn down.
In memory of this famous landmark and “Stille Nacht”, the Austrian people built the “Silent Night Chapel” on the altar site of the original St. Nikolaus church.
The Silent Night Chapel took 13 years to complete, from 1924 through 1934 and formally dedicated in 1937. Select this link to view our Nativity Figurines.
Christmas Spider.
Proud of her Christmas tree, an elderly woman left to attend Christmas Eve Services. While away, a white spider spiraled the tree marveling at the decorations. Realizing he left his webbing all around the tree, he scurried away. Shortly afterwards, Santa arrived. Knowing the lady would be devastated by the spider’s unwelcome contribution, he added glitter to all the webbing on the tree and created a shimmering sight to behold. The woman returned to delight in the sparkling addition made to her tree. And thus “tinsel” was created. Select this link to view our Nativity Christmas Ornaments.
