Teachers College at Columbia University.
Teachers College is on of the outstanding institutions for teacher training in the United States. This division of Columbia University is a coeducational graduate school of education at Morningside Heights in New York City. The college offers courses in the history and principles of education, the philosophy of education, school administration, general and educational psychology, secondary education, theory and practice of teaching in elementary schools, kindergarten principles and religious education. Special programs may be arranged in adult education, educational guidance, nutrition, recreation and nursing education.
The college was founded as the Industrial Educational Association in 1884. Four years later, it was chartered as Teachers College through the efforts of Frederick A.P. Barnard, president of Columbia University at that time. The first president of Teachers College was Nicholas Murray Butler, who later became president of Columbia University. The early college offered a two year course and had schools of education and practical arts. The enrollment the first year was 169. In 1893, it became a four year school.
In 1919, the Horace Mann Lincoln School of Teacher College was founded. It served a s a laboratory where students observed modern educational methods and experiments in the development of courses. In 1946, the Board of Trustees of Teachers College voted to discontinue the operation of the Horace Mann Lincoln School in 1948.
The College has nine academic buildings and owns several residence halls and apartment houses for the accommodation of its students. The Norman enrollment is about 5,500 in the winter and about 7,500 in the summer. The majority of students are mature men and women from all sections of the United States and abroad.

The Teachers Creed.
The Teachers Creed is a statement of principles for teachers and educators. Edwin Osgood Grover, an American author and professor, wrote it. It reads as follows:
I believe in boys and girls, the men and women of a great tomorrow; that whatsoever the boy soweth the man shall reap.
I believe in the curse of ignorance; in the efficacy of schools; in the dignity of teaching and in the joy of serving others.
I believe in wisdom as revealed in human lives as well as in the pages of the printed book; in lessons taught, not so much by precept as by example; in ability to work with the hands as well as to think with the head; in everything that makes life large and lovely.
I believe in beauty in the schoolroom, in the home, in daily life and out of doors.
I believe in laughter; in love; in faith; in all ideals and distant hopes that lure us on.
I believe that every hour of every day we receive a just reward for all we are and all we do.
I believe in the present and its opportunities; in the future and its promises; and in the divine joy of living.

Apple Facts.
The apple is the most valuable of all the fruits that grow on trees. It is also more widely grown than any other. Apple trees grow everywhere except in the very hottest and the very coldest regions of the world. They bear their juicy, crisp fruit in Europe, South America, Africa, Australia and in Asia from India northward into Siberia. Apples are grown in nearly all the states of the Union and in all the provinces of Canada.
The apple came to America as an immigrant, along with the earliest white settlers. People now cherish it as a typical American product.
