Candy Cane
The candy cane to many is a delicious Christmas treat. Centuries ago, a simple candy maker needed to create a perfect gift for the King. The candy was shaped into an upside down “J” in order to represent the Good Shepherd’s staff. However, the candy maker wanted it to mean more. He added white and red stripes. The white represented the birth of Christ and the red would stand for the blood Jesus shed. The candy maker knew this would be the most perfect gift the King had ever received. The Glass Candy Cane Ornament
The candy cane was invented in England in the 17th century. At that time, the government would not let people celebrate Christmas. So, a candy maker made a hard white candy in the shape of a shepherd’s crook, or an upside down letter J, as a secret symbol of Jesus. The three thin lines represented the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The larger red stripe reminded the people of the life of Jesus given up for all mankind. The candy cane is a double gift…a sweet treat and a symbol of the true meaning of Christmas. Select this link to view our Christmas Books.
